Review by Andy_White -- The Reel Sisters
Have you ever thought of fly fishing as a sport and an endeavor to self-actualization? The Reel Sisters book, by Michelle Cummings, is a perfect illustration. The book encompasses different writing styles ranging from narrative to persuasive and descriptive, making it a catchy one. Fly fishing is an angling technique whereby you lure a fish using an artificial fly that has been hand-tied and made of natural substances like feathers, hair, or a piece of clothing. The fly is attached to the end of a leader with a line that is accompanied by a rod and a reel.
Fate if not good luck brought the five women together. Rose, Sophie, Amanda, Veronica and Melody are the reel sisters. With their different professionalism, fly fishing hooks them together and they develop a strong bond. Their friendship is like a gift to each other, highlighting the worth of having an association with someone outside oneself, hence bringing out the distinctive personalities and destiny of one another. Rose is the pioneer of the group and helps them to master the craft of fly fishing. This craft helps each of them realize quite a lot about their inner capabilities and strengths which they could not exploit on their own. It is like a self-actualization sport that brings confidence, bravery, strength, peace and joy to each of them.
I love this book, The Reel Sisters, as it is a motivational book based on narration. It motivates individuals to get out of their comfort zone, and try doing something else with the right attitude; as an attitude can alter your elevation. This book is full of lessons about fly fishing and its divine call is to pass the craft to the next generation, making it a great archival material. Life is all about endurance, focusing on goals, adjusting techniques, determination and commitment which equals to a perfect cast when fly fishing.
For self-realization, this is a perfect book to read and keep in remembrance of its many lessons. Many people have lost track of their purpose and have the sensation of uselessness, to a state whereby it would not matter if they were not in existance. As stated in this book, by Michelle Cummings, “you have to believe in yourself and your abilities or the doubt will win every time,” an art one has to master while fly-fishing but also an all-time life lesson.
Standard English narration is used in this book. The alternating narration of the different protagonists in the story makes its premise excellent, but some dialogues did not make a lot of sense hence tedious. This book has the objective of cheering women to go fly fishing, therefore making it best pertinent for women to read it. Its motivational element and attention-grabbing storyline also make it laudable to men. The book is remarkably well-edited and has no grammatical errors. It has a few vulgar word usage, though brilliantly put in context. I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars, due to the brilliant narration, but losing a mark in its long non-essential dialogue and the few uncouth words.
