Devil Among Us by Jack Winnick is the second book in the series Lara and Uri. I found it to be an exciting, politically-themed thriller. I enjoyed the plot’s twists and turns, the interesting characters, and the overall storyline.

Lara and Uri, an investigative pair, must work together again after a New York synagogue is bombed and hundreds of people are injured or killed. FBI Special Agent Lara and Mossad Agent Uri are both called to the scene of the bombing to begin their investigation. Having worked together in the past, they quickly fall into a comfortable working routine and start working the case immediately. At first, the clues lead them to members of the synagogue that was bombed, but they soon discover that this attack is related to a much larger group with much more dangerous plans.

This book was absolutely packed with action! The first chapter exploded with excitement and suspense as the bomb savagely tore through the synagogue and surrounding area. I loved how quickly the story developed from there. It moved along at such a fast pace and kept my interest the entire way through! I was very impressed with the author’s well-researched information regarding some historical events that are discussed in the book. I felt that the information provided was accurate and told with informative details that mixed with the fiction of the plot to create a wonderful story.

The partnership between Lara and Uri makes this book such a compelling read. They have worked together before, so they already have a playful, funny banter that gives some relief to the stress of the suspenseful scenes. They make a wonderful team, and I enjoyed reading about their relationship. I’d like to go back and read the first book now to get additional insight into their history.

I believe that the content of this story may not be for all readers. The plot includes a lot of anti-Semitic conversations and comments that could be offensive to some readers. Additionally, the descriptions of some action scenes were quite graphic and may be too intense for some people.

Overall, I felt that Devil Among Us by Jack Winnick was edited well and had only a few grammatical errors. I enjoyed the exciting plot and the engaging characters and rated this book a four out of four stars. This is the second book in the Lara and Uri series, however, I do feel that it can be read as a stand-alone story, so if a reader has not read the first book in the series, it will not hinder their enjoyment of this book! There was nothing that I disliked about this story, and I would recommend this book to readers that enjoy politically-themed stories filled with suspense and mystery.
