The Dark Web Murders was created from the brilliantly deranged mind of Brian O’Hare. The fourth book of the Inspector Sheehan Mysteries takes place in Northern Ireland, where a calculating murderer seems to be targeting leading members of society. Each body is found naked with blunt force trauma to the back of the head. The individuals also appear to have been sodomized by a police truncheon. As the number of victims increases, Detective Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan and his team struggle to make the connection between a group of people who seem to have nothing in common; except maybe one.

As DCI Sheehan and his fellow officers dig deeper into the personal lives of each of the victims, they stumble upon an elite society of members of a private abode known only as The Club. The atrocities discovered within the house lead the detectives to consider that the murderer is one of the society’s members. But, as they continue to dig deeper, the case takes a surprising twist, leaving them reeling for answers.

The Dark Web Murders is a masterful crime thriller that takes you into the mind of a psychopathic murderer. While the author continually introduces possible suspects throughout the book, the real murderer is lurking in the background. As the story progresses, the reader is continually contemplating who the murderer really is.

The book can be read as a stand-alone, as the author kindly provides brief descriptions of each of the main characters, suspected murderers, and pertinent secondary characters at the beginning of the book. The author also has extensive knowledge on various subjects that occur throughout the book.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys psychological murder thrillers. The author provides insight into the killer’s mind via blog entries that Detective Stewart discovered while digging through the underbelly of the Internet. The intensity of the murders, along with the sexually explicit nature of some of the events and characters in the story would not be recommended for those softer stomached in nature, nor for young readers. While there is limited profanity in the book, the graphic descriptions alone may deter some readers.

Overall, I would rate The Dark Web Murders 4 out of 4 stars. While the story is darker in nature, it is a very captivating read as O’Hare’s words draw the reader in from the very first sentence.
