Looking Glass Friends by E.L Neve is a book about love, soulmates, and illusions. Ellie was a woman who was a deep thinker when it came to ideas and books, but not when it came to relationships. Neil was a man on the edge and looking for something that he could not find at home. It just took one encounter to shake both of their worlds and to show them that soulmates exist. What follows that meeting is a lot of ups and twice as many downs for all the parties involved. It made you wonder was love the most important thing or should responsibility win the day?

This book was very different than what I expected it to be, but I discovered it was everything I wanted in a book. There were many things that I liked and loved about this story. The first thing that drew me was the interaction between Neil and Ellie from the start. They were both deep thinkers so they would bounce ideas off of each other and contradict each other when needed. I loved reading their interpretation of things. The second thing that I loved is the struggle that the characters went through. While it was sad at times to read about it, it made the characters relatable. It emphasized the real-life idea that every decision has a consequence that must be borne. The third aspect I liked was that everyone who deserved it had a happy ending. You like to see resolution for those that deserve it and this story absolutely provided that at the end.

I disliked nothing about this book. All of the characters were well thought out and they blended together well to create this story about falling in love when you least expect it. The protagonist was also a character that you love to hate but at the same time felt sorry for. The pace of the story was also perfect because the characters didn’t just jump into a forbidden relationship. They became friends first and transitioned to more only after they knew the relationships with their spouses were over. So, all in all, I found nothing that I had problems with while reading this book.

When evaluating my likes and lack of dislikes I have to give it a 4 out of 4. The book caught me with the almost poetic language that the characters spoke when communicating with each other. It drew me in further as I read about the conflicts of both of the characters and really made me want to see a happy ending for all those involved. It had a few spelling errors but nothing that really affected the storyline at all. Cursing was also very minimal in this book, so overall a great read and a really compelling story.

In the end, I would recommend this book to anyone 18 and up. The whole story is about an issue that many married adults can potentially face, so I think an adult audience would appreciate it more. The very few instances of profanity and none descriptive sexual encounters would be more suited for the older crowd as well. So I would recommend this book is for adults only.
