Review by ValerijaJ -- Twisted But True by Darren Burch

4 out of 4 stars

Twisted But True by Darren Burch is a truly remarkable book. Darren, a retired veteran, has many crime-related stories to tell. Working for the Phoenix Police Department, he encountered a lot of bizarre and mind-boggling crimes. From funny stories like chasing cows in the middle of the street, to the vilest crimes a human can imagine. The author also describes some of the problems he encountered during his life, including how and why he wanted to become a police officer in the first place.
Written almost like a satire, one can hardly believe that these crimes actually happened. I chose this book because I am interested in truthful tales that originated from police officers that were on the field. The ones that break the police-officer-eating-doughnuts stereotype. And I was pleasantly surprised. Truth be told, it was surely not what I expected – it was even better.
What I liked most about this book is the sincerity and the bluntness of information. There is no dancing around the point, the point is very much jumped into. Also, it is quite easy to read. If you're worried you won't be able to understand the police lingo, do not worry, everything is very well explained. This is why I admire this book – such complex things, like police training and thinking, flowed into my brain with such ease. The writing makes you feel like you are sitting in a coffee shop with the author who is telling you about his career. There is not one thing I dislike about this book, other than I would love to read even more stories.
Some stories are longer than others, but they are all a few pages. There were no grammatical errors. The book was professionally edited, which adds to the dedication the author had with getting his story out. Adding the author's unique style of writing, it is overall a very pleasant read.
I rate this book four out of four stars. I'm giving this book all four stars because it was very interesting, heartbreaking, but also enjoyable and easy to read. The book would appeal to those who love good dark humor and can find amusement in such stories. I must add, that this book is not for the faint-hearted or the ones with a weak stomach. From beginning to end, reading this, my jaw constantly dropped, or I had a disgusted look on my face.

You did such a good job letting your readers know what the book is like.
I am an aspiring reveiw writer and enjoy reading well written and phrased articles.
I am not intrested in this type of story. As I am more of a novel sweet story girl.
Thanks again and thanks for saving my time.
