Hidden: Nistar by Batya Casper presents two stories; one set in Israel, the other set in England. Both stories take place during a war, each one with different consequences. The first story tells of Pnina and Baruch Lazamof, and their attempts to keep their family together, including the generations that have come after them. It shows the mental and emotional strain that a family must endure due to the effects of war.

On the other hand, the second part of the book focuses on World War II in England. Inda and Arthur are married, with two children, Billy and Claire. Arthur believes that it's a man's duty to serve his country, and thus he sets off, all the while sending refugees for Inda to accommodate. This story shows how persons of different backgrounds must work together and keep each other safe in situations like these, while simultaneously overcoming their individual problems.

The book is rich, filled with shocking imagery and emotional moments. Even though the stories aren't told in chronological order, they are consistently understandable, and maintain an appropriate amount of tension. Additionally, each character gets their moment in the spotlight, with emphasis on their personalities and struggles. The only downside of this book would be the few editing errors. For these reasons, this book gets 3 out of 4 stars.

This book is appropriate for teenagers and older, but would especially appeal to young adults. It would provide them with insight to situations that they most likely haven't experienced, and allow them an understanding of the lives during different times.
