Who Told You That You Were Naked? by William E. Combs is an inspiring revelation of an event in the book of Genesis. The title of the book itself is a question that God asked Adam after he ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He explained the incidents that occurred before that question was asked, and also clarified the consequence of their (Adam and Eve’s) action and its effects on humanity afterwards.

The book begins with a short story about the likely lifestyle of Adam in the garden. Although the Bible never presented it that way, the author deliberately employed this technique to identify with the first man portrayed in the Bible and to give a relative understanding to the readers. The book further gave insight into the innocence and consequence of Adam’s act of eating from the forbidden tree. Thus, explaining the three types of death as well as what God meant by the sentence: “...for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die”. The book provides answers to some questions that come to the mind when one reads this particular event in the book of Genesis. Furthermore, the author relates that experience of the beginning to Christians’ faith, freedom, and walks with God.

There are several things I love about this book. It is quite incredible how the author relates his childhood testimony and ministry to clarify his points. Also, the way Rev. Combs used the Bible to substantiate his point is admirable. These include his citation of many biblical references, other than the book of Genesis.

Furthermore, Rev. Combs surpassed my expectations when he used other commentaries, scholars, and writers to explain the Garden of Eden’s event. Each chapter has engaging study questions for discussion, specifically to help reflect and digest the truth in the Bible. His writing style is exceptional, and his knowledge of God’s word is highly admirable. His explicit explanations and ability to make context relatable is unique.

In as much as I love the book, I would have admired it if Rev. Combs used a consistent font in all the pages. The book is well-edited. I only found one apostrophe error and two wrong quotations from the Bible in the book. Notwithstanding the book is a pleasure to read.

Overall, I rate Who Told You That You Were Naked? 4 out of 4 stars because of the inspiring and revealing truth I discovered while reading it. I recommend this book to anyone who believes in the Bible and wants to know the truth about the mystery at the Garden of Eden.
