I have always been intrigued by the concept of financial freedom and how to go about it. A way of not having to live paycheck to paycheck. Being able to sustain certain living standards when kicked out of a job. The Employee Millionaire by H. J. Chammas shows people how to use their day job to become millionaires with rental properties. It is “An enabling guide to achieving your goals through discipline and great self-leadership” as mentioned in a blurb by Brenda Bence. Chammas uses his experience as an investor in real estate, and what he has learned from books, coaches and mentors.

The book starts with an introduction to the author’s life and what motivated him to begin his real estate journey. Since he was a kid, he always wanted to become rich when he grew old. He was afraid of ending up like his parents who often fought about money. It led him to start creating money as early as possible in life. He talks about the different businesses he tried, like when he was seven he started selling rare collectible toys to his classmates. However, his parents stopped every business he started and compelled him to focus on his studies. He completed his master’s degree and later started working for a multinational company in Dubai. With his hefty pay, his expenses grew larger to pay for the lifestyle he had created for himself. During the 2008 financial crisis, he witnessed many people being kicked out of their jobs. This served as a wake-up call for him. He later met Joyce and his ‘big why’ started taking shape.

The Employee Millionaire shows; the rental investment blueprint, getting prequalified for a loan, how to build your team and so much more. The author has a unique point of view about having wealth. He considers wealth as an enabler, to spend more time with his family and also help other people. According to him, being financially free allows one to have more conviction in their decisions. Every concept and term in the book is easily explained and can be understood by any person. The author also gives the readers a website link where one can find formulas and template that can be helpful.

“Where am I now?”, “Why am I here?”, “Where do I want to be?” and “How do I get there?”, these are the question that really moved me. They made me dig deep and start setting my priorities right. There are short summaries and activities at the end of every chapter. There are a few typos and grammatical errors but that did not interfere with the flow of the book. It's an interesting self-help book that answers vital questions about investing in rental properties.

I am giving the book a 3 out of 4 stars rating. I would have given a four if not for the typos and errors in it. It is very educational. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a proven method to help obtain financial freedom while reducing the risks involved. Getting to learn from experiences of Chammas' success and failures.
