The book Health tips, myths, and tricks authored by Dr. Morton Tavel is quite a lengthy book that looks into variety of health issues that are contentious in nature and gives a definitive answer to its effectiveness.
Dr. Morton is an authority in the field of medicine he is a restive physical specializing in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease as well as a native professor at Indiana University school of medicine. He also has authored other book which includes” snake oil is alive and well.
This book expands upon that belief by also examining where the myth comes from and how the scientific community has come to process such claims.
The book is divided into 62 chapters, with each chapter examining one issue. The first third of the book is on health tips. The issues range in variety from pain killers weights loss, chiropractic cane, some food to award, fish consumption, heartburn and the benefits of regular exercise to mention but few. The second part looks into myths. This section looked at a myriad of issues from energy drinks, fortified food myth, should consider consuming organic food, welder free diets and many more. Finally, the third section looks at the tricks advertisers and drug companies use to make you feel you need their product. Each chapter provides an example of converted issues such as weight loss supplement, alkaline water, human growth hormone, etc. there is also a chapter that examines the type of deceit.
I live the basic setting with which the book is presented, which is the issue is being presented, research sitting on various viewpoints are given and then Dr. Tavel gives his own professional opinion. Dr. Tavel gives seemingly sound advice. He looks into a wide range of research texts and combines it with his own medical background to come up with his own opinion on an issued. Dr. Tavel spells out how the public has been deceived into believing we cannot live without a certain item despite the fact that there is little scientific proof that the item actually helps us. He often mentions name brands of products he is discussing and specific treatment and drugs which is refreshing. He also examines the power of advertising and how that has down sales and our belief that we must have the trading feed 142.
I found the book easy and entertaining to read and understanding. There is consistency with the flow of the topic in discussion, and each section has a summary to assist the reader with a clear vision and comprehension of what the author wishes you to take from the segment. Not everything I read was unfamiliar. For instance topics like the consequences of smoking, alcohol usage was already known topics to me, that I hear and read about these topics all the time. Nonetheless, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it is a great book to read.
I strongly recommend this, book to anyone that has no or not myth knowledge and insight into the world of dieting and health issues. 24.
This is the type of book you don’t just discuss with family and friend, but also refer back to periodically.
