The book, titled ‘My Trip to Adele’ authored by R. I. Alyaseer and A. I. Alyaseer is a non-fiction book, based on a concert of Adele. The book deserves 4 out of 4. The authors have tried to convey the different reactions of people when they face diverse situations in life and have related these situations to the songs of Adele.
My Trip to Adele revolves around the people who love to listen to the songs sung by Adele and plan to attend the concert of Adele, organized after many years. The book has multiple protagonists, each of whom has been portrayed beautifully and in depth. Since the book has been translated from the Arabic language to English, there were few typo and sentence construction errors. As the books with multiple protagonists often error in the flow of the stories, the authors in this particular book have maintained the flow beautifully making the transition from one family to another easy and devoid of confusion.
The protagonists reside in the different cities, namely, the city of Amman (Jordan), Las Vegas (USA) and Rome (Italy). Elias works in Rome and travels to Marrakesh (Morocco) in search of peace which will be attained only after he finds his lost love, Malika. His search takes him from Rome to Marrakesh to Verona. The concert of Adele is his final destination to find stability and peace in his life.
On the other hand, Mariam and Yaser, residing in Las Vegas (USA) also known as the Sin City, work out different ways to find the lost magic in their marriage, one of them being the Adele concert. The complexities in their life narrow down to the search of faith, which will eventually make or break their marriage.
The story of Nadia revolves around her son and her desire to make him happy at any cost. She struggles between the traditions and cultures of her tribe and her intense desire to be independent. The only thing which will make her son happy will be the concert of Adele and she is determined to attend that at the cost of her job. The only huge complexity in her life being the shared custody of her child with her ex-husband.
During the course of the stories, the authors have brought together three different stages and situations of life where the only connections between them are a search of love and concert of Adele. The stories relate to the common man and one might find answers to mundane questions such as the existence of faith upon reading the stories.
The songs of Adele had been quoted in several places which correlated well with the respective situations. It even tempts the readers, who are unfamiliar with the works of Adele, to have a look and listen to the songs.
I have found the book interesting. The insight into the lives of so many individuals has taught me the different meanings of love which has been exhibited in different forms in the stories. The books also indicate the importance of point of view of the other person, which we often fail to consider. With the passage of time, people change. When people change, either we adapt or we move on.
I have enjoyed reading the book and I am thankful to the author for such good experience.
