The book High Hopes by Sue Lilley was not a book that I would have typically picked up and read On a normal day. However, the book did prove to be rather interesting at some points when I was about half way through the book. The book is about a group of three friends who after many years com back together to reveal that one of them has a secret that they want to tell them all.

The thing that I disliked the most about this book was the fact that it often jumped from the perspective of one person to the next rather quickly and it was difficult to follow along sometimes. Another thing was that I didn’t really know what was happening at the start of the book, and it took me quite a few chapters to at least get some sort of feel for where it was going or what was going on. The things that I liked the most about the book was that once it wasn’t confusing anymore, there was an interesting story between the three friends and the various secrets that they all had between them. There were also instances where there would be flashbacks but i had no idea that they were because there was either no warning of some kind, dates or any inclination that it was a flashback.

Since this is a book that more leaned on the romantic side, there were some erotic scenes, which was to be expected. The were things that ranged from flirtation to actual sex that occurred in the book. There were also a few swear words as well. Since it was a kindle book, there are location numbers rather than pages. The first use of profane language was used on Location 672.

There were a few grammatical errors throughout the book as well with most being misspelling and some with sentences that didn’t make sense. It took me awhile to realize that the book takes place somewhere in England so there might be some terminology there that someone from the U.S didn’t quite understand.

I would give this book 2 out of 4 stars because it is really not my kind of book, there were spelling errors, it took a good portion of the book to get a grasp of what was happening, it changed perspectives quickly and without warning making it difficult to follow at times, and the story itself needed more actual story rather than focusing on the more erotic or flirty scenes. I would recommend to people who do in fact like romance books and don’t mind the fact that there is little actual story going on. To people who want more out of a book, this would definitely not be a first choice.
