People think that the opposite of love is hate. Wrong. The opposite of love is indifference. You might be in deep as far as loving someone, but if they are indifferent towards you, you might feel that the love is not reciprocated. Love can feel like a beautiful waltz, but when one partner is a narcissist, it turns into a painful struggle. Relationships with narcissistic individuals can cause emotional harm and long-lasting damage. Understanding the signs of narcissism and its effects on relationships is vital for anyone wanting a healthy and happy partnership.

A primary characteristic of a narcissist is their constant need for praise. They often seek attention and praise, leaving their partners neglected and unseen. Another vital characteristic is manipulation. Narcissists frequently twist the truth and blame their partners for problems in the relationship. Narcissists have a problem with empathy; they do not have any.  This lack of empathy may develop into a cold and unloving environment.  They are incapable of loving someone. A narcissist uses charm in the beginning. Then, they become emotionally and verbally abusive. They often use sarcasm when conversing with you. They distort, blame, and usually deflect the situation onto others. They are extremely good at gaslighting. Narcissists also firmly believe their lies, and they are perpetual liars.

All of these characteristics of a narcissist and how to deal with them if you find that you are married to one is in the book The Opposite of Love - Empowers Women. Know the Narcissist’s Mind, Protect Your Heart, Know How to Slay The Dragon, For The Life You Deserve by Vicki Mills, MS. M. ED. The author explains, in detail, how a narcissist behaves and what to look for, and then she educates you on how to deal with them. This is an efficient book that I believe will help readers navigate their relationships with narcissists.

The book was enjoyable and informative. There was nothing to dislike or disagree with. The author’s writing was easy to understand and flowed nicely across the pages. I would recommend this book to anyone having difficulties in their relationship or looking to get into a relationship. The book was well-edited, as I did not find any errors. I recommend this book to adults and young adults alike. If young adults have this knowledge, it might help them avoid getting involved with someone with these unsavory characteristics. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. It wasn’t the most incredible book I ever read, but it was the most educational one.

I am guilty as charged. I used to think that the opposite of love is hate. While I know how indifference plays out, I haven't really seen it as the opposite of love. This is a new knowledge for me.

I like how you gave the description of how a narcissist behaves so that people will know whether or not they are living with one and if this book is written for them. It is debilitating to find oneself in a relationship with a narcissist. Having strategies to protect oneself and set boundaries is necessary. This book will help those who are living in this situation. Great review as usual, Shirley Ann!

This book is very useful. You don't always know what type of person you meet or engage with on a day to day basis and sometimes you can't tell the difference. It was super awesome review, I liked the flow of words from the top to bottom. :mrgreen2:

Narcissists have always interested me, because they are so different and work so differently than us, or maybe it is my tendency to make poor decisions. In any way, I do agree. Narcissists are not partner material, at all. There are chances that they can be however, but the chance is very slim. I hope everyone stays safe from such people. You did a good job with the review. However, in the beginning, I had no idea why you were talking about narcissists. Later in the review, how you explained what the book is about. I feel like it would have been better if you had done it before. Anyways, good job with the review.

Interesting review. I see a lot of value in empowering women and others to recognize the signs of an abusive relationship, that's very important and I like that about the book. But the way it uses the word "narcism" feels a tad stigmatizing, a narcissist is a human being still, and they have a mental condition they gotta learn how to live it, to try to equate all of them as abusers puts me off the book a little. But I can see it being very useful for most people in a relationship.

After reading your paragraph on everything a narcissist is, I'm grateful my husband doesn't tick any of those boxes. My heart goes out to anyone who is married to one, and I hope they get a lot of help from this book.

Your review accurately highlights a profound truth about love and indifference and key traits of narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). While many equate the absence of love with hate, it is indeed indifference that can be more damaging. When one partner exhibits narcissistic traits, the emotional imbalance can lead to significant distress for the other person. Recognizing the signs of narcissism is crucial for maintaining healthy relationships. It allows individuals to set boundaries and protect their emotional well-being.

"The Opposite of Love" sounds like an insightful guide on navigating relationships, especially regarding the complexities of dealing with narcissistic individuals. The emphasis on understanding narcissistic behavior and its effects on love and connection is particularly intriguing. I appreciate that the author provides practical advice for recognizing and addressing these issues, which could be valuable for both young adults and those already in relationships. It seems like a helpful read for anyone looking to foster healthier connections.

Everywhere I turn these days, the terms "narcissist" or "gaslighting" appear and are discussed, so this book is not for me. Still, it sounds like it would be educational for people unfamiliar with these behaviors. The opposite of love is definitely indifference!

The title of the book caught my attention. Indeed, there are different forms of love. There is a kind of hurtful love. The book discusses an important aspect of understanding relationships away from stereotypical ideas. Thank you for the great review.
