Digging for God by Tom Hillman describes a spiritual journey to an ashram—a peaceful place that feels a bit like the Garden of Eden. At this ashram, you find freedom, face challenges, and enjoy a welcoming atmosphere. The ashram offers celibacy, lots of tasty food, and a sense of brotherly love. The experience includes meditation, organic meals, and a focus on the world's fate, creating a calm and harmonious environment. It also explores the benefits of working for free, how it helps others, and how you can embrace the ashram's environment, which promotes forgiveness and sensitivity.

The book follows the author’s time at the ashram during a holiday celebration. They participate in a variety of activities to explore their inner selves and find peace in the ashram's routines. Through these experiences, the author reflects on the importance of seeking spiritual growth. The ashram becomes a place of comfort and self-discovery, offering a peaceful escape from the busy outside world. The book emphasizes how meditation and spiritual practice can lead to inner peace and fulfillment.

Butch was one character I found to be intriguing and engaging. I loved how adventurous and eager he is to dive into new experiences. Even though he’s new to the ashram, Butch faces the unknown with bravery and excitement. His positive attitude and curiosity make him an enjoyable character to follow.

The storyline about the author’s journey to self-discovery and enlightenment through meditation at the ashram was also engaging. The author’s ups and downs in finding inner peace really connect with the reader, highlighting how important mindfulness and spiritual growth are. The story is compelling and enjoyable due to the author's inspiring and relatable descriptions of meditation sessions and their drive to improve their practice.

While the book overall had some intriguing moments, there were a few aspects that I found off-putting. The author frequently compares Ashram life to the outside world, always making the Ashram seem better, which feels a bit unrealistic and lacks depth. Also, some of the characters were one-dimensional, causing a lack of depth in character development and making it difficult for some readers to fully engage with the story. Overall, I feel like these issues took away some of the enjoyment of the book.

In conclusion, I found no grammatical errors or typos. It had a decent edit, and I feel it deserves a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. However, I strongly recommend this book to individuals looking for a deeper meaning in life and a path of self-discovery.
