Negotiating Like Lives Are on the Line: The Essentials of Crisis Negotiation for Use in Everyday Situations by Jonathan Pultz educates on the essence of crisis negotiation. It begins with Jon trying to convince Jorge not to end his life; through negotiation, he convinces him to step back over the ledge and turn himself in. Whether it's at the bargaining table, in the boardroom, or even at the dinner table, or whether you're haggling with a salesman, resolving a conflict with your spouse, or striking a big business deal, the tested strategies in this book can give you an edge. Through real-life examples and a step-by-step system, this book teaches you how to negotiate and get the results you want, even when the stakes feel impossibly high.

I love how the author uses his experience to de-escalate some of the most high-risk situations, like when Ken armed his whole house with guns because he believed that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had snipers everywhere and they were going to assassinate him. The author used such a scenario to teach us about negotiating and staying calm in stressful situations. He shows how the same mindset and methods used by crisis negotiators can be applied to negotiations of all kinds, from establishing instant rapport to using tactical empathy to diffuse tensions. By reading this book, you'll learn how to think like a crisis negotiator and get the results you want.

Honestly, this book is a game-changer. The author's decision to take the lessons from crisis negotiation and show how they can be applied to everyday situations is both brilliant and incredibly valuable. Too often, negotiation advice can feel abstract or disconnected from real-world challenges. However, the way the author blends compelling case studies with tested frameworks makes the concepts feel immediately actionable. I am definitely going to use what I have learned in this book, like the OODA (Observe, Orient, Decide, and Act) loop, body language, patience, how to say no, and even BATNA (best alternative to a negotiated agreement), in talking to people or in situations needing negotiation, as well as how to remain calm and keep my emotions in check under extreme stress or stressful situations.

I would recommend this book to business professionals and students. The book's unique focus on applying crisis negotiation tactics to everyday situations makes it valuable for a wide range of readers. Get a copy of this book and see for yourself how the author's crisis-tested tactics can transform your negotiation skills and help you achieve your goals. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because I disliked nothing about it, and it was professionally edited.

The book's use of dramatic real-life cases really brings the principles of negotiation to life. For instance, the story about Ken and the DHS snipers highlights the importance of staying calm and using empathy in tense situations. It’s amazing how these high-pressure scenarios can provide insights into everyday negotiations.

I was impressed by how the book combines theoretical concepts with practical application.** The step-by-step system for negotiation, including techniques like the OODA loop and BATNA, is not only well-explained but also demonstrated through compelling examples, making it easier to apply these strategies in real life.
