"Grand Slam Life" is Milton Haber's autobiography detailing his life from birth to medical school, his career, his family, and—most importantly—his experiences in the COVID world. The author starts narration about childhood by introducing his mother Rosa, who moved from Russia to the US for better opportunities; his father Maurice, who was in the army; and his siblings Brenda and Charlie, who gave him a good, comfortable family life that supported him in his future.

Despite all the difficulties he had encountered along the way, a friend called him with information on medical school and an urgent request that he enroll right now. Milton took charge when it was time to decide. After accepting the offer, he moved to Monterrey, Mexico, to start medical school. This began his medical school career. As I read this, I couldn't help but wonder, "Didn't he decide so quickly to move, even though he had thought of doing medicine?" However, it dawned on me that individuals with goals must seize opportunities, be bold, and trust their intuition. He did that. Although the road ahead was not without its challenges, the will to persevere remained. His baseball career grew in tandem with his education. He had to balance school and athletics, cope with self-doubt, manage his mental health, struggle in school, wait for possibilities, and discover himself in the middle of all this. Isn't it true that we've all been there, caught in the liminal space? Despite everything available, life's ups and downs made the route difficult, but Milton's overcoming these challenges and achieving his goals is admirable.

He obtained valuable experience from his internship after graduation. Later, an offer for a resident position launched his career. Along the way, he met his wife, Nurse Rita. Despite the hurdles of their intercaste marriage, they united and pursued medical professions. This created several opportunities, including returning to his hometown to serve. This opportunity is truly remarkable, as many individuals aspire to serve in their hometowns and make significant contributions to their country. The arrival of his kids, Paul and Mariellen, increased his happiness. This began his lifelong pursuit of fulfillment. Seeing his hard work pay off is amazing.

He was content with his success and family, but he still regretted not being a full-time parent to his children and felt like something was missing. Isn't it human nature to always seek or add new goals? In this spirit, he founded Laguna Clinical Research Associates, a research facility committed to carrying out clinical trials that substantially contribute to lifesaving. Perhaps this was the final piece he needed to complete his life's mission, as, having tested positive for COVID-19, he felt compelled to assist others in the impending vaccination trials. However, the question remained: do people volunteer for trials? That is the global challenge. Through this chapter, I gained a better appreciation for the tremendous sacrifices made by medical professionals and scientists in their quest to save the world. He discusses COVID-19, the vaccination, his personal experiences, and the impact it has had on his family. These are Milton's amazing life highlights.

I give this book a 5 out of 5. The book contains valuable chapters about his youth, medical school, family, hospital, and research center, all of which are worth discussing. He candidly revealed his journey, including his inadequacies, challenges, and people's faults, as well as his desire to follow his path. The book has excellent writing, an intriguing narrative, intimate and emotional visuals, and suitable topic separation. I was filled with genuine appreciation for the author's journey and didn't find anything disagreeable or unlikable. The editing team skillfully presented a flawless book that makes for a pleasurable read. I recommend this book to everyone who wishes to know about the medical field and people's incredible journeys.

There seems to be a lot about medicine and that field, would this book be suitable for people in other industries or is it too specific for that?

I agree with everything that you wrote in your review. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I was in awe at how dedicated Dr. Haber was in the service to his patients. He often went beyond the call of duty to care for their well-being. This review was well-written. :techie-studyinggray:
