Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks a Physician’s Advice by Morton E. Tavel, MD contains a wealth of information on scientifically proven medicines as well as alternative medicines. He also gives some facts about a couple of other things that can potentially have an effect on your health and general well being. Every statement made are backed up by facts and scientific studies quoted are listed. Dr. Tavel sites both sides of every argument before giving his own opinion, in doing so he allows the reader to form his or her own opinions.
The book is well written en easy to read in spite of a number of scientific names and information. Every argument is well stated without dragging on for the sake of argument. If you are looking for a quick fix or an easy way to lose weight or stay healthy you might be disappointed by the content of this book. If you are concerned about your health then this book is a must read.
I give this book a 4 out of 4 because all the information given is relevant, well researched and given in a way that shows the author does not view the reader as a simpleton, but as an intelligent human being that, with the right information, can make sound decisions. The writer is never condescending of people who does not follow the path that he recommends and the warnings he gives is communicated in a way that shows care and understanding.
The information and tips given on health and weight loss was an eye opener for me personally. It is always a challenge, when confronted with a new diet or weight loss program, to decide if one should try it out, and for how long one should continue with it if you do not see results. I feel better equipped to judge the validity of diets and supplements after reading this book.
It is never a pleasant experience when something you believe in is found to be wrong or have the potential to be harmful. Unfortunately, after reading this book I have to change my views on natural products and remedies or at least the way I approach them. Dr. Tavel does obviously not believe in sugar-coating facts or sparing ones feelings, but this book not only gives facts but also advice and tips on how to judge for one self and how to tell charlatans, out to get your money, from companies that really care about their products and improving your way of live.
