Fortune Cookie by John R. Johnson is fascinating. The novel is full of lies, intrigue, murder, and suspense. The story opens with Amy Chen hearing voices in her home one night. As she makes her way to the stairs, she sees her husband talking with intruders. What was the intruders' motive for entering her home? Amy and her husband operated a business selling oilfield equipment. Were they targeted because of their business dealings? As the characters are introduced, we see how they are all intertwined. At first, the crime seems to be a hate crime, but then there is a twist. Amy's dad, Wu Sheng seems to be involved in the scheme. The laptop from the house has turned up missing. Did Harry Ma, Amy's husband, hide, or was it stolen? Some very secret intelligence information was floating around, and it could be deadly if it turned up in the wrong hands. The scope of the investigation had broadened into the Chinese Communist Party. Would investigators find the missing information before it was too late?

I was impressed with the entire storyline. There were no errors, and the subject was very intriguing. I enjoyed the drama and suspense. I became very invested in the story and the characters. I was on the edge of my seat, waiting to see how the plot unfolded.

There was nothing in the entire book that I found distasteful. Fortune Cookie was an easy story to immerse myself in. The scenes and characters were well-portrayed, and the lack of errors made the book that much more enjoyable to read.

I give Fortune Cookie five out of five stars. The events and characters were easy to relate to and were fascinating. The book was very well-edited, as evidenced by the lack of errors. The story was believable and exciting. The writing was captivating and drew me into the story.

My recommendation for the reading audience is for readers of all ages. The scheme would be understood by most readers and enjoyable to so many. There was nothing in the entire book that I believe would be offensive. It was easy to follow and interesting to watch the plot unfold.
