Final Act by Van Fleisher is a captivating fusion of thriller and science fiction, immersing readers in a world shaped by a gun-obsessed culture and a climate of political turmoil. Within its pages, themes of revenge, suffering, and abuse interweave seamlessly with the story and its well-crafted characters.

At the heart of the narrative lies Dr. Vijay Patel, an Indian physician who invents the VT2—an athletic watch equipped with a life-expectancy indicator. Driven by a genuine desire to prompt individuals to cherish their time with loved ones, Patel's creation holds a profound purpose. The VitalTech company eventually acquires his brainchild, only to be subsequently sold to J. Edward Konig, while Patel continues his work in the division responsible for alerting people of impending fatalities.

Final Act boasts an array of enticing elements, particularly stemming from its unique storytelling approach. The author's writing style effortlessly draws readers in, making the book an enjoyable and straightforward read. The characters are skillfully portrayed, fostering easy identification and engagement. Moreover, the novel's thirty-two captivating chapters, each delving into intriguing topics, elevate the reading experience, leaving a lasting impression.

While the book excels in many aspects, there are a few areas that could benefit from further development. The political themes, for instance, would have benefited from deeper exploration, providing more nuanced insights into the differences between Republicans and Democrats. Additionally, the author's approach to gun control appeared somewhat one-sided, as discussions solely revolved around negative events, potentially skewing readers' perspectives. Furthermore, the constant use of bold text to denote changes in the setting felt excessive and repetitive, occasionally detracting from the overall flow. Lastly, some elements of the plot ventured into the realm of implausibility, stretching the boundaries of realism.

The book's editing deserves special recognition, as it exhibits a level of professionalism and precision that is truly exceptional. Not a single error disrupts the reading experience, highlighting the meticulous attention to detail. After careful consideration of both the book's merits and flaws, I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend Final Act to enthusiasts of mysteries and cybercrime, as it masterfully combines suspense with a touch of dark humor, leaving readers craving more.
