Review of Demon Freaks
Bing plays guitar, Ron plays bass, Meat plays drums and Kaitlyn plays the keyboard, these friends are attending high school and getting ready to write their S.A.Ts. Bing likes being organized and plans to attend a good film school after high school. Ron and Meat are more of the wild card types, they accept whatever comes their way and will have fun with it. Kaitlyn, well, she’s always late. The four of them are a band and play at local events. They are constantly changing the name of their band, searching for the perfect name. They plan to study at Meat’s cottage and have a band rehearsal. Bing and Ron are brothers and go to the cottage together, where Meat will be there already. The adventure begins when the three friends are at the cottage anticipating Kaitlyn’s arrival, she is at home getting ready, meanwhile, Bing, Ron and Meat experience the horror of watching a man caught in a thunderstorm walking toward the cottage, in the backyard. The man is only seen when lightning flashes, he collapses at the back door and they bring him inside to find out that he is their history teacher, Brom, who is dressed in robes and is bleeding. When Brom wakes up he attacks Bing, Ron, and Meat. In the scramble Brom gets knocked out, when he wakes up he is tied to a chair this time and getting interrogated. While Bing, Ron and Meat are questioning Brom, they are greeted by more people in robes in the backyard. Will they escape? And where is Kaitlyn?
Bing, Ron, Meat and Kaitlyn are unique and well-developed characters on a thrilling adventure fighting monsters and exploring the catacombs, in an attempt to escape danger. At first, I thought that the dagger’s powers were a little strange, but as the plot developed the dagger’s history became more and more intriguing. The humour written in the book due to some of the different character's personalities and the names of some of the companies only increased the level of enjoyment. How J. R. R. R. (Jim) Hardison ended some of the chapters had me continue reading instead of putting down the book, to avoid the unbearable suspense.
When I read the back cover I thought it was going to be more of a horror genre, I was anticipating being spooked, but it turned out to be more of an action thriller. If you are looking for a scare, this will not satisfy your search for fright.
Demon Freaks was extremely entertaining and well-told, it had magic, monsters, and secret societies. I am giving it 4 out of 4 stars. I like to read about normal people that you can relate to, that go on an adventure that will broaden your imagination of the world we think we know. The book looks professionally edited and the layout of it makes it easy to read.
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy action stories with a light thriller element to them, and to anyone who is a teenager and older. The book does not contain sexual scenes, there is nudity but it is not very descriptive. There is the use of mild profanity, only at the end. The sacrifice being carried out is by fictional secret societies and has nothing to do with religious views.
