Wow, this review is really well written. The Reviewer gives a peak of what the book is about and does it in a way that raises curiosity. I love how he describes the character of the detective, making me like him even though I haven't read the book.

I like a book about not-so-hardboiled-detectives (or rather, half-boiled), Paris, and crimes far deeper than petty marital feuds. Sign me in! Toni's unorthodox design had me hooked!
I write the best reviews possible. :idea2:

I like how Toni isn’t shown as a brave hero but someone real who fumbles and feels. The Paris setting, the mix of secrets and emotions, and even the ending with Rose’s letter make this sound like a touching and thrilling read. Congrats on BOTD!

According to the description provided, the trilogy sounds very promising and enticing. I like the genre and read many detectives; therefore, there isn't much to surprise me in a plot "that is a mix of deception, murder, and personal dilemmas", but the mystery of perpetrator identity is always a bonus, and in this case, I am also drawn to the feeling of atmosphere created and the character of Toni. Thanks for the recommendations, and congrats on BOTD!

Thank you for this beautifully written review. I was especially drawn to your reflections on Toni’s character, his vulnerability, flaws, and quiet humanity make him so compelling. It's refreshing to hear about a detective who doesn’t rely on bravado but instead wrestles with emotion and consequence. Your mention of the Parisian setting and its smoky, post-war essence also makes this novel feel alive. I look forward to discovering how Toni navigates deception, regret, and family secrets. This sounds like a story that lingers. I will definitely read it since it's the Book of the Day today.

Parisian Detective Tales is a refreshing take on the detective genre. Toni isn’t your typical fearless hero—he’s flawed, emotional, and deeply human. The story blends mystery, personal regrets, and post-war Paris atmosphere beautifully. A must-read for those who enjoy noir with heart and depth.

I would love to know more about the case Toni was handling that seem deeper than it appeared. I will also love to know more about the reason for the confrontation he has with his sisters. Nice review.

Your review is detailed and has given me a good idea of what to expect from this novel. I like that the protagonist Toni has a fresh layer, quite different from the typical hero and detective we know. It is also exciting to know about Marcel Marquié's impressive writing style.

Anybody book that takes me on a ride that's filled with mystery and uncertainty is my type of reading material. I'm going to add this to my must-read list for the year because the reviews I have read have not been disappointing. Congrats to the author for having the BOTD.

Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed review! What really caught my attention was your description of Toni as a detective who’s refreshingly human—flawed, emotional, and far from the typical hardboiled hero. That alone makes me want to read this. I also love atmospheric settings, and your mention of post-war Paris, smoky cafés, and political tension makes it sound like the city is practically a character itself. The emotional layers, especially with Rose and the sisters, add a depth I didn’t expect from a detective novel. I’ll definitely be checking this one out!

I appreciate stories with 'flawed protagonists' as it makes any story more realistic and relatable. That in crime/mystery thriller with personal touches looks promising.

This is a great novel for people who like reading mysteries and detective stories. I like that the author incorporates a romantic twist in the story. Toni seems like a great and well developed character. I'm curious about how events will unfold in the book.

"Parisian Detective Tales, a Trilogy: Part One: Two Sisters” by Marcel Marquie is a story that is a mix of deception, murder and personal predicaments. The main character is a detective named Toni who is not the typical hero found in crime novels. He takes on a case of infidelity and finds out that the case is much deeper than it appears. It is a mystery that involves hidden pasts and family secrets and the more he uncovers the more secrets he finds and these secrets are much greater than marital problems. Toni is also not the typical detective, he is not brave, nor tough. He fumbles, gets injured and often lets his emotions get in the way. The book has historical and post-war settings with an influence of American crime novels but also contains a blend of French sensibility. One needs to read the book to learn about the two sisters, Sandrine and Claudine, that are in the title of Part One of this trilogy. The sample was excellent with vivid descriptions of the two sisters and Sandrine’s husband who hired Toni to find out who Sandrine was having an affair with a couple times a week. I look forward to reading the entire book and the next two books in the trilogy.
