I am not really fond of reading science fiction books, but Roan has totally attracted my interest. It is because it contains some sort of fantasy touch making it very interesting to read. Roan shows different themes like love, secrecy, friendship, loyalty and trust. It appears that all of the characters are given special parts making them all very important to the story. The story is something new to me as it is not really about a scientific theory that needs to be solved similar to what most science fiction books offer. It is something new and fresh and readers will surely enjoy every page of this book.
Roan by E.R Barr is all about Conor, a Chicago adolescent boy who is being taken care of by his ailing mother. Conor’s usual day has changed when his mother died and he got bitten by a biker he met in a pub. He was then told to go to Tinker’s Grove without knowing what’s in store for him there. This is when all the adventures, mysteries and revelations began in the life of Conor. Tinker’s Grove has revealed a lot of secrets and mysteries to the main character. This is the source of the exciting parts of the book.
E.R Barr has used so many themes so that the plot will be interesting and unforgettable. There are just so many things going on in each and every page of the book and this makes it very difficult to put down. It is like drawing you more and more to finish the book and know what the ending will be. The author has a great way to engage the readers and further attract their interest and attention to the story. It is like each and every part of the book increases its intensity as the story progresses.
I think the best part of the book is that its characters are easy to relate with. The twists of the story also made the book very addictive. However, there are some scenes that I find too sweet for its theme. It is maybe done to give a halt to all the excitement that the book is giving its readers.
I recommend this book to sci-fi book fans who would like to read something a bit different from the ordinary. But those who are expecting a slow paced stories will have difficulties with this book since it is very exciting and interesting. I, myself, would love to finish the book right away as it kept my adrenaline going. It is well written and edited and no grammatical or spelling errors are found. With this, I rate Roan 4 out of 4 stars. This is the perfect book for Sci-fi mixed with fantasy lovers.
