Sci-Fi/ Fantasy

Alex Fine is a gifted teenager living at an orphanage located in Los Angeles, California. Envied for being favored by the orphanage director Ms. Jenkins, Alex keeps mostly to himself and is well on his way to applying for Stanford University. His future seems to be set in stone after he loses all hope of ever being adopted by a loving family. However, his life takes an unusual turn when he stumbles upon a supernatural ability he didn't know he possessed. His unique powers give him the world at his fingertips and access to a super abundance of knowledge within a matter of seconds.

Armed with his newly discovered abilities, Alex Fine trades his life at the orphanage for a life of riches and leisure. He decides not to pursue Stanford, and instead receives his fortune by stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Alex maintains a firm conviction to take only from twisted criminals. Yet can his actions go unnoticed forever?

Mobsters, foreign billionaires, and classified government agencies form a network of enemies for Alex as he tampers with his new abilities. It isn't long before he realizes a life of luxury comes with an immense price. Alex experiences passionate relationships, loyal friendships, and even clues into his hidden past. However, his radical lifestyle and choices could cause him to lose everything he has just recently gained.

I rate Superhighway 3 out of 4 stars. The author was able to create memorable characters and convey their unique personalities in a convincing way. He gave such vivid descriptions of particular scenes where I could actually feel my heart beating rapidly along with the main character's as he hid inside of a mobster's closet! The author was also unafraid to expose Alex's immense flaws, which made the story even more believable. I can honestly say this is not a typical kid with a superpower story. Alex's ability is truly unique and far from cliché. However, there were several grammatical errors that I noticed throughout the book, which is why I did not give it a perfect rating.

I would recommend this book to adult readers who enjoy action, fantasy, and even a little romance. The author, Alex Fayman was able to captivate my attention throughout the entire book. The storyline is truly unique and keeps you entertained with every chapter. I would not recommend this book to young readers as there is mature content as well as explicit violence. At times, I felt as if these scenes were distracting from the overall plot of the story, as there is quite a few of them. All in all, Superhighway exceeded my expectations and I am glad to see that there is a sequel as well.
