Review of Rise of the Savior
Antoine Bonner's book "Rise of the Savior" centers on the tale of deities and portal magic.
The author narrated the tale of deities, the process of selecting a successor to preserve the good things, the impact of superpowers, and the conflict between good and evil. Upon introducing characters such as Amanda and Jamie, who assume significant roles in the book as representatives of good and evil, the author portrays them in a way that contrasts their perspectives on their actions and the power they possess. As I read Jaime's story, it felt as though the author skillfully crafted it to make us question our actions: Is he truly acting in a wrong or selfish way? Or is he simply a helpless father who is desperately trying to save his son? The author's narrative evoked a multitude of perspectives as I read it, highlighting his conscious struggle, his interactions with influential individuals, and his manipulation; it was an exceptional exchange. Again, the conversation between Jamie and Chigaru, the manipulation, convincing him this is the right way, and showcasing contrasting scenes were highlights for me. The story brilliantly narrates Jamie's journey from a life-saving doctor to a helpless father to an evil-powered individual.
When it comes to Amanda, the protagonist of the book, the story initially revolves around her family, particularly her superpowered sister Saira. Her story began slowly, with nothing significant happening until she gained power and decided to protect the good people and defeat the evil force, acknowledging that she was truly a chosen one to uphold goodness. Amanda, like Jamie, is a helpless human being in a similar situation, yet she continues to choose the right path despite numerous influences conspiring to subjugate her under the power of evil. It was thrilling to read about the elements of this story, which piqued my curiosity about Amanda's journey of preserving goodness, battling her inner demons, and choosing the right path despite her desperate need for power to save her family. The narration presented a stark contrast between Jamie and Amanda. While Jamie surrendered to evil forces to save his son, Amanda chose a different course of action, leading readers to witness a conflict between two opposing forces, one working for his benefit and the other for the benefit of society. That part was enjoyable to read. The story of Saira, the little sister with a superpower, took me a short while to understand due to her heavy dialogue. I found the story to be beyond her age range, which hindered my ability to relate to her. Overall, the transformation of Jamie to evil was intriguing to explore; Amanda's slow journey from being a teen to a protector was slow and steady.
I rate this book 3 out of 5. The positive aspects of the book include the narrator's portrayal of Jamie's background, his transformation, the dilemma he faces, and the emerging power he encounters in battle—all intricately woven to keep me engaged throughout. The plotline, which featured multidimensional stories with multiple characters, was the book's strongest point. The dissatisfaction stems from Amanda's story, which was less serious and only took an intriguing turn when she met Jamie. The slow narration and casual conversation led me to deduct stars from the rating. The editing team excelled in presenting error-free content, ensuring a pleasant reading experience. I suggest this book to people who like portals, magic, and deity-related stories.
