Superhighway by Alex Fayman is a science fiction/fantasy novel in which the main character, Alex Fine, can travel around the world via the Internet network. That may sound far-fetched, but knowing that the genre is sci-fi makes it believable. In this day and age, it would be amazing to get around so easily. All Alex Fine must do is find a computer, type in a search for a place he wants to go, reach for and pull out the network cable behind the computer and he is magically transported abroad. The transport within the network is not as exciting as what happens in the places he arrives to. He finds love easily and eventually becomes an internet Robin Hood, taking money from bank accounts and creating new accounts to help support charity. I do not read a lot of science fiction and yet I really enjoyed his adventure.

What I liked about the book was the superpower of physical travel via the Internet. Alex Fine does not discover his superpower until the age of 18 when his orphanage receives computers for the first time. Being fascinated with the internet, Alex Fine stumbles upon his power by accident. He is young and naïve so it is understandable that he learns from his mistakes, often in a very tragic way.

I like the fact that the protagonist is an orphan because I learned what it is like to live with foster families. This fact is told in the beginning of the novel and made me empathize with him right away. He never knew his biological mother or father, and living with different foster families was difficult. His various foster parents ended up turning him back in to the orphanage, were often unloving, and didn’t always treat him well. I can imagine that someone in a similar situation is wise beyond their years, and yet Alex Fine possesses another type of intelligence that I won’t give away here.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few typos/errors throughout the book that are noticeable. I was quite forgiving of these errors because the book was fun and entertaining. I was more interested in the adventures of Alex Fine and I look forward to the next book of the trilogy. The pace of the book is quick because Alex does not stay in one location for too long, and the book moves fast overall because the chapters are short.

I give this book 3 out of 4 stars because, even though I thought it was entertaining, it has too many typos/mistakes to receive 4 stars. I recommend this book to sci-fi fans and others who are interested in adventure/fantasy.
