Evy Journey’s book Hello, My Love is an easy read for those looking for a little romance without a lot of stress. If you are headed to the beach to relax or curling up under a blanket on a snow day, this love story of a playboy who finds his true love will suit your purposes perfectly!
Elise is the protagonist that all women fantasize about being – beautiful in an angelic way, incredibly smart, adored by all who know her, and free of the baggage that comes with multiple love affairs gone wrong. Greg is the handsome, successful playboy that all women want to tame; the intriguing bad boy who seems just a little out of reach. The novel opens with a glimpse of the unlikely friendship that has developed between the two main characters and, immediately, the reader wants nothing more than for a love affair to bloom. Luckily for the reader, it does. What follows is a story of extreme ups and downs – a betrayed ex-lover, a separation, a hit-and-run – that test whether or not their love is the real thing.
I give Hello, My Love 3 out of 4 stars as a light, easy-to-read, satisfying romance novel. It has moments of greatness – specifically the scenes where Elise and Greg are intimate. These two main characters are likeable, relatable, and well developed, and when the author puts them together in an intimate situation, the prose is beautiful, emotionally charged, and well-written. And the reader is able to witness beauty in the consummation of a new love without the distraction of explicit description!
Where this novel fails to earn the 4th star is in its lack of emotion or depth in the scenes that aren’t tied directly to the intimacy between Greg and Elise. In those scenes, the dialogue seems forced and not conversational, there is no suspense where there could be some, and there is a lack of emotional depth that one would assume would be present when the issues at hand include things like abortion or attempted murder. There are also places where the story skips past major events in the lives of Greg and Elise. This leaves the reader feeling a little emotionally disconnected from the couple and, to be quite honest, longing for more detail about the couple’s connection.
Overall, Hello, My Love is a satisfying read if you are looking for something that isn’t a nail-biting page turner or a deep, complex look at love. The flow of the narrative, as well as a few well-timed surprises, keep the reader engaged without too much angst and have the reader cheering for a happily ever after.
