Elise Halverson is in her early twenties and a law school student. She has her priorities in focus as believed to be by herself, her parents, and her friend Leah. But will her encounter with a playboy businessman change her focus? At first encounter, she is quite removed from any kind of involvement with Greg Thorpe. In fact, the barrier she puts between the two only has him more intrigued for her. Greg Thorpe's relationship with her father leads to many dinners hosted by the Halversons. He just can't seem to stay away. Elise has her own reasons for hardly missing a good meal at the Halverson's home. Together in company there is a tug of war you could say on various topics discussed by both Elise and Greg.
Greg Thorpe has been in a serious relationship with Lori Williams. Well, one late night with his friend Elise will bring about more change than Greg could ever expect to see coming. Elise feels these changes too occurring with her. There are some years where separation took its toll. Fate will intervene and bring forth so much joy and sorrow in their lives. After all, there must be a balance in their lives.
In the beginning of reading this book, I found myself having a difficult time becoming attached to the characters. This is unusual for me as I have read many books throughout my years and consider myself to have a vivid imagination. However, it felt like i was on a ship that was moving like a baby sea turtle in the water. There were colors in the sky and in the water. Still, I was having the hardest time immersing myself into the book. I admitted to myself that I was not at ease.
I do believe that part of this feeling of uneasiness came from the breaks in chapters moving forward. This happened throughout the novel, but as distracting as I had considered them at the start…I had grown accustomed to it the further I read in the novel. However, by the last chapter departure I was still feeling like there could have been better descriptions to further engage the reader. I rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars for several reasons. If this book had been even more detail oriented and had a better hook with beginning chapters, I would give it 4 stars. I could go on and tell you that one of the greatest appeals to me was parallelism found throughout most of the book. Both Elise Halverson and Greg Thorpe found themselves in a position to protect. This kept me delighted to know that both figures were doing their best to keep someone they cared deeply for safe.
I think this book will appeal to those who want to step out of their comfort zone in regards to style. As I had mentioned previously, I was unaccustomed to the breaks or pauses as one might call these in this book by Evy Journey. I also feel that someone who loves to take it slow while reading would have greater enjoyment than someone who is a speed reader due to details being as they were presented. I feel this book may not be for someone who is sensitive towards the practice of preventing childbirth. However, being as sensitive as I was towards this topic…I still found myself enjoying the heart of the story as I continued on reading from Evy Journey's book called Hello, My Love.
