Review of Kalayla
Lena Barzetti is a 72-year-old woman who wears a black dress constantly because of the deaths of her husband, Joey, and her twins, Jimmy and Mickie. Kalayla is an 11-year-old girl who is careless with her choice of words. Kalayla’s careless attitude grew worse because her mother’s schedule became tighter after the death of her husband, Jamal. This is because she had to work steadily to meet the family’s needs. Because of the circumstances of Maureen’s marriage and family, she had to lie to Kalayla that her entire family died in a gas explosion. How will her daughter find out the truth? What was the actual story behind Maureen’s family? You will find out when you read Kalayla by Jeannie Nicholas.
Lena had wished she could give her children the best parental training, but she could not achieve that because of restrictions from her husband. Lena had four sons. The first son, JJ, had turned to take charge of the family business. The second son, Mark, left home for many years with no trace of his whereabouts.
Kalayla, by Jeannie Nicholas, is a book that enlightens on responsible parenting and all that it entails. It is also worthy of note that the attributes of selflessness and love are essential for a child’s upbringing. The author sheds more light on the positive attitude one should exhibit towards finding solutions to problems. I could understand the power of research and be attentive to news and current happenings in the nation and the world at large. It is without a doubt that racism results in separation, disunity, and hatred. Hence, the government should solve the problem of racism.
This piece is outstanding and mind-blowing. I want to commend the author for his ability to edit this book professionally and exceptionally. I also applaud the well-built characters and the organized story structure and arrangement, irrespective of the complexity of the plot. Unlike other books, which are divided into strands or chapters, the author divided this book into captivating titles. I would also like to add that the story is unpredictable and explicit.
The book does not contain diagrammatic illustrations for easy and in-depth understanding. This book contains the usage of profane words. The author used a lot of incomplete words that made me uncomfortable while reading. Hence, I will rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I will recommend this amazing book to people who want racism to be annihilated and also to people who preach togetherness, love, and peace.
