Hello, My Love by Evy Journey is a story about Elise, an aspiring lawyer and Grey, an engaged millionaire playboy who inherited his fortune and Company from his father. Grey first saw Elise on TV and was immediately enthralled. He met her when he hired her father as a consultant. At first Elise did not like Grey but soon realized there was more to him that meets the eye. Two nights before his wedding they gave into their passion for each other. Their night together had consequences that neither one saw. Two years later they meet again.
Evy Journey was inspired by Jane Austen. Being a Jane Austen fan myself, I thought I would have enjoyed this book. Sadly I was disappointed. This was a difficult book to finish. I found the relationship between Elise and Grey to be contradicting, and not relatable. When the book begins Elise and Grey already had a friendship for months . According to the book “a friendship, not only of ease but also of trust, the kind that permitted them to share confidences and their innermost thoughts.” However, two nights before his wedding is when Elise choose to ask him, his fiancée's name, a fiancée he had for a year. I thought that was odd, it seems like we were told what the characters personalities and relationships should be but their actions, reactions, and decisions were completely different. I was not convinced of their love.
I found that chapter titles confusing and strange with repeated titles. At first, I thought that it was the character point of view that the chapter was named after, but then there were other characters point of view within that chapter. What was also very confusing was the time jumps, forward and backward without it being clearly defined.
What I dislike most about this book is that nearly all the important dramatic scenes were cut. For example, Grey thought “He was going to woo Elise back. He was not sure how, but it was bound to be more complicated than what he went through to get his father's business into the internet age.” However, we never found out how complicated it was because they went to Elise apartment to talk and then it cut to two weeks later. There was also too many elements that had nothing to do with the plot line. All of this made the book very boring, dragging, and anticlimactic. The vocabulary used was out of place for a Modern-day novel, and some choices were just bad when it came to describing the atmosphere that the characters seem to have enjoyed. “reeking of roasting meat, and a mixture of Indian spices.” and “taking in the delicate scents her skin gave off, at once sweet, musky, and briny.”
I did not enjoy Hello, My Love. I rate it 1 out of 4 stars . I could not empathize with the characters. There were too many contradictions and also inconsistencies in some scenes, with what the characters were physically doing. I also found a few typos and grammatical errors. I would not recommend this for someone looking for an easy relaxing read.
