The book Randy Love at your service by Shay Carter tells the story of the life of a young man named Randy Love. Members of the Love family were very interesting people to read about. James the first son had lofty ambitions which he gave his all and achieved. Heather- the only female after their mother’s death also achieved a lot of her goals through conscious efforts and determination but Randy always seemed to get into one trouble or another with female admirers. It was good to know that he finally settled with one. Their father John, was a man filled with wisdom as well as his good friend Michael. Randy’s friends Toby, Nadir and Ian were also funny people and had a major impact on his formation of values.

I enjoyed learning that the reason for difference in dates in various places is the type of calendar they decide to use. I agree with the author and Randy’s father that some courses should be removed from the university curriculum such as political science due to scarcity of job opportunities in such fields. Also, it is true that half measures are produced as graduates from universities in many cases.

I didn’t like the fact that too many slangs and unknown British terms were used in the book. My flow of understanding was stopped many times because I had to stop to check for the meaning of some words in the index at the end of the book. Also, I would have loved it if the index was arranged in some order, such as alphabetically or according to the chapters in which they appeared in the book. I also think that a sort of notification to help readers know that some slangs were explained by the author at the end should have been included in the book because some may only find the index after they have finished reading the story. I also do not like the predictive nature of the story, every chapter was mostly based on Randy’s escapades with a lady.

I would rate the book 2 out of 4 stars. This is because I think that the book was not professionally edited. There are few errors which may be quite difficult to detect because they may be mistaken for British slangs at first. I also think that the author could have developed certain parts of the story more such as the purchase of a television by Randy, and not just bring it to an abrupt end.

The book might appeal to young adults who like to read romance novels but it is not appropriate for kids.
