Randy Love...at your service

  by Shay Carter

The First Ten

Because Randy Love...at your service was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted reviewers have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book. The reviewers even read at least the first 10 pages of the book. They have each written a short review explaining why they plan to read the whole book or not based on the sample they read and other aspects of the book. Their feedback is displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten.

Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.

The summary made me want to learn more about this book, although I found the phrase "early adulthood" confusing - is the character barely out of his teens? I liked the cover artwork, but the author's name seems too large and "in your face." The sample pages are well written and have a nice flow. However, I found it a little boring that the book started off in chronological order with Randy's parents starting out in their marriage. Based on the sample, I am not that interesting in reading further.

The Amazon blurb for this book leads me to believe this is not a book I would enjoy. I have a hard time with characters who lack common sense and find themselves in wacky situations by their own doing. The sample I read was professionally edited and I thought the storytelling was done well. There just wasn't anything that jumped out at me and made me want to read more. I don't think this book would hold my attention and therefore I won't be purchasing a copy to read.

I probably wouldn't have sampled the book without the program, as it isn't a book that I normally gravitate to. The cover is nice and the blurb satisfactory, but it didn't really hook me. Reading the sample, and the official review, further made me realize that the book isn't for me. I found the language kind of awkward and didn't connect to it. I won't buy the book as it content doesn't appeal to me.

At first glance, I thought the cover art looked cool. To me, the blurb was short and did not give enough information.
After reading the first ten pages, I can say that this book is well-written and professionally edited. The plot itself does not interest me and is not the type of story I would read. Therefore, I do not intend to purchase this book today.

After reading the blurb, I definitely don't think this book is for me. I sometimes do enjoy romance books but this book doesn't sound like my cup of tea. After reading the first ten pages, I will pass on reading this. I'm really not hooked into the storyline and it really kind of seems too simple for me. I like more in depth and complex stories which this isn't.

This was an entertaining book to sample. If I were not a part of the First Ten program, I would have sampled this book due to the title. The title hints at a humorous story, and so far in my sampling, it has been. The OnlineBookClub review of the book was also interesting enough for me to consider reading the rest of it. The best part, for me, occurred when Edna, the neighbor, visited Randy and John about her lawn being defiled by their dog. This event lead to a satisfying exposition that was not forced at all. There was one typo: "lead" was used instead of "leash" by Edna when referring to Barrett, the dog. I will buy this book and read it.

I don't dislike the cover of Shay Carter but it isn't something I think I will be looking further into. It isn't exactly the sort of book I usually read so I think I will give it a pass. I will check out the first opening pages and see if it catches my attention. However, after reading the opening pages of this book I don't think I will be continuing because I was further able to determine that it isn't my kind of book. I do think it will be one a lot of people will enjoy reading though.

Vermont Reviews

Randy Love At Your Service by Shady Carter today's book of the day shows the story of Randy youngest son of the Love clan. Andy's brother and sister already have successful careers and Randy seems more interested in bedding women than he is in school work. Based on the preview I would have bought the book. At this time my reading schedule is overbooked and I will not be downloading the book.

If I had not read the sample, I would not have read the book. I felt like the blurb was a bit vague and wasn't able to peak my interest. After reading the sample, I have changed my mind; the writing was engaging, and I especially liked how the story started: with the family, then through the family members. This way, I got to understand those characters early on. It was professionally edited. The official review did instill some doubt into me because I often also have trouble with too many unnecessary secondary characters.

The sample was quite interesting but I usually don't read books with this type of genre. I won't read the entire book because it just wasn't interesting enough for me to finish it. I did not notice any major grammatical errors either.

I remember reading the review on this one and was happy to see such an insightful review, as the OBC reviewer seemed to address all the main things I look for when choosing a book. I love that humor is a huge aspect of this one, as I always find humor such a lightening genre, as something that just lifts my whole mood. I'm afraid I'll end up having the same negative thoughts this reviewer did though, which not finding the plot to be intriguing enough for my taste. I'm going to pass on this one, but may keep it in the back of my mind for the future.

The cover and title lack uniqueness and creativity. Therefore, I was not interested in the book at first glance. After reading the sample, I was disappointed. It felt flat and became dull. Also, the author included much more details than what was needed. In conclusion, I will not be purchasing this book.

I didn't think I'd be reading this book when I first saw it. The title sounded like an escort service, and there was some conflicting information concerning its genre. As I read the first ten pages, I was confused about on whom the book would focus. First it's Heather, then it switches to a different narrative. It seems to be jumping around. There was no follow-up about Marjorie's unexpected death. Overall, I was confused and unimpressed.

From the sample, I could gauge that the book seems to be professionally edited and the author has made use of simplified language to hold the reader's interest. Unfortunately, just writing style isn't enough and the author should have worked slightly more on the plot to engage the readers. The plot line is dull, which made the sample seem quite long. A story of self-discovery of a young, clueless and charming man, had a lot of potential but with so many secondary characters and excess description of scenes, the story felt long-drawn. Therefore, based on the sample and the official review, I skip this one.

After reading the official OBC review for "Randy Love...at your service" I was hesitant to sample the book. The reviewer made comments about poor editing and too many secondary characters. Further, the cover artwork doesn't pique my interest. After sampling the first few pages of the book, I didn't think the grammatical errors were as overwhelming as the reviewer previously stated. However, I did find the writing to be a bit bland and the dialogue especially felt stilted and unnatural. Though I think there are some interesting characters and that the narrative has potential, I have decided not to finish reading this book. Nothing in the beginning sample really grabbed me and the writing felt uninteresting.

I would not have looked into this book based on the title and cover alone. I don't think the description would have encouraged me to read it either. The official review actually would have encouraged me much more, because I tend to avoid romance, and the review pointed out that this is more of a exploration of the character than a true romance. When I read the sample, it appeared professionally edited. I did get a strong romance novel vibe from the book when I started reading it, which frankly made me lose interest immediately. I would not continue to read this book, primarily because it's a genre I don't enjoy. I did like the author's writing style, however, and I appreciated the fact that each character seemed to have a distinct voice.

This isn't something I'd typically look at. The cover is fitting enough, and I didn't notice any errors. I was a bit surprised to start the sample and have to wait to become aquatinted with the title character. A little back story is great, but choosing to first focus on, not only the parents, but also the siblings (in detail), seems strange to me. I'm certain it was going somewhere, but it didn't get there soon enough to catch my interest. I won't be continuing.

The cover of this book isn't very compelling. The blurb in the Amazon listing didn't suggest the sort of book that normally interests me. I was more interested after reading the OBC review, in site of the two-star rating. The reviewer's reasons for taking two stars actually raised my interest.

I was surprised, and pleased, to enjoy the excerpt of the book that I read. I agree with the OBC review that this is not a romance. I'm not sure I would think of this book as humor, though, either. While there were humorous moments, mostly, it just felt like normal daily life told in an animated and detailed way.

I will not be reading the rest of this book. I am not interested in reading about "flings," and Randy himself, at the beginning of the book, just isn't interesting enough to follow through his journey of self-discovery.

The title of this one is definitely catchy, along with the cover it reminds me of a cross between James Bond and a more ordinary life. The book starts off describing the family and all, which is a bit funny and interesting but sometimes hard to follow with all the names. I'm definitely curious to find out more about how Randy will shake up the lives of his family, but it's a little long for a humorous book to me. I don't think I'll be finishing this one.

The cover is not really appealing, the title is confusing, the blurb does not hold my interest, humor isn't a genre I lean toward, and the only review available (OBC) rates this as a fair read. Therefore, I would not have sampled this book without this program. Based on what I read, the book does seem to be professionally edited. The tone of the book, so far, sounds light and pleasing. Though I do find the explanation of certain scenes having too much detail, such as, Heather's makeup. In the meantime, I presume, the death of Randy's mother had no lead up. As the reader, I did not get the sense that she was even sick, but then her husband couldn't wake her up and her body was cold? Overall, due to the low amount of reviews and the beginning of the book not holding my interest, I do not plan on purchasing this book.

This book sounded witty and smart and I was eager to sample it. The main character seems shallow and immature, so I hope this is a good story about him growing up but I couldn't tell if that's the direction the story was going or not. There were also some strange formatting and spacing issues going on that got distracting.

I don't think I will be reading this book because this seems like a playboy book about how this guy gets with girls. I am not going to be reading this book because it doesn't capture my attention. There is not enough action in the first few pages, that makes me want to like it. It seems professionally edited. I did not see any review, and I don't think it would affect my decision.

I would have sampled this book without this program based on the genre, blurb and OBC review. It seemed like a funny book and unique concept. After reading the first ten pages, I won't be buying this book. The sample was well-written, but not the humorous book that I thought it would be. I was also confused about if I was reading a preface or the actual book throughout the sample. There was a table of contents, but the text itself didn't seem to be labeled. There also seemed to be some formatting errors in the sample that I read, so I'm not sure how the book would be after purchasing it for Kindle.

If not for this program, I wouldn't have read a sample of this book. The sample was entertaining and right from the beginning we get a clear picture of a young man who doesn't really seem to have much motivation or ambition. I felt it was well-written and the dialogue flowed really realistically. I can't recall any editing issues.

Based on the cover and OBC review alone I would not have sampled this book regularly. The character seems to be making poor decisions and getting nowhere in life. I am not fond of reading about these kinds of things so I didn't think it was for me. After sampling I confirmed that I do not want to buy this book as it is very negative and just not something I want to read.

Had I not sampled this as part of this program, I would not have chosen to read/sample this book because the romance genre does not interest me, and I did not like the sound of the synopsis.

I will not be buying and reading the whole book because of my original reasons and also because of what I read in the first ten pages. The book is supposed to be about Randy, and yet the first ten plus pages talk about everyone else in his family. I find that somewhat confusing and unnecessary.

The book does seem professionally edited. I did not notice typos or grammatical errors.

The book is well-written. The author knows how to tell a story. However, I found the focus on physical appearance offputting. Also, as I said above, I think the story should have started focusing on Randy earlier on. Of course, reading further into the book might explain why this is the way the story starts off.

This book was officially reviewed on OBC.
