The book Randy Love at your Service by Shay Carter, introduces the character of Randy. The first chapters look at a young adult who makes a decision to go against his father’s will of him completing his university education and decides to drop out of university to follow a career in the banking sector.

Randy is the youngest of three children and is portrayed as the most irresponsible of the three. Randy decides to move out of his parents home and has to do all sorts of odd jobs in order to support himself. The author portrays Randy’s immature behaviour, he plays pranks on his landlord resulting in avoidable conflict and ends up losing his security deposits due default as he is seen on numerous occasions having to run away from his lodgings. Randy meets many different girls whom he dates and engages in risky sexual behaviour as he is only seen using protection once, he does not want to be committed to one person. He however finally settles for Nicky the girl his father’s friend Michael Goddard had advised him to settle for.

Page 102 paragraph four, line six it is not clear if he is thing or it’s actually happening. Page 110 paragraph one, there is no smooth flow. Page 137, it is not clear how Randy goes to stay at Paddy’s place and how he leaves his position at Milton. The author on page 225 suddenly introduces that Randy wears spectacles which is something that was never said throughout the book.

I disliked most the fact that the author portrays Randy as a penny pinching character but throughout the book Randy losses money through forfeited rental deposits and drinking sprees. I find the story to have at lot irrelevant characters with every chapter introducing new characters. I liked most that the book is every educating especially to young adults starting their lives independently from parents and guardians. The book mostly appeals to college students and young adults who are planning or have started their lives independently.

Though the book is not a thrilling read, I would rate the book 3 out of 4 because I found the book readable, educating especially on the aspects of love Randy wasted a lot of time trying to be a playboy instead of looking for true love, human relations Randy had many problems with his landlords. I learnt the importance of keeping bank cards secure to avoid card cloning however the author leaves this incident un-concluded in the book.

In summary the book Randy Love at your Service looks at the life of a young man called Randy, from being a college student, his working life, love and relationship with those around him. Randy’s mother Marjorie passed on when was young was left with his father John raising him and he is the youngest of three children, a brother James and a sister Heather. Randy drops out of University against his father’s will to follow a career in banking. He works part time at The Old Coach House in order to pay his rent and support himself. Randy has difficulty in settling for true love because of the playboy lifestyle he wants to follow clubbing and drinking Spree. Randy engages in risky sexual behaviour he has having multiple sexual partners he is only seen using protection only once. Randy finally settles for a committed relationship with his brother’s subordinate Nicky. Randy wastes a lot of money on rental deposits due to breach of contracts resulting in always looking for someone to bail him out. He is someone who is not serious with his work. He is also someone not trustworthy as he is seen trying to cheat others throughout the book.
