Randy Love At Your Service by Shay Carter is a light funny tale of Randy Love and his antics; as he stumbles through his adulthood.

Randy Love, the protagonist of the book, is portrayed as a carefree young man who belongs to a sensible, achieving and hardworking family. Randy is a charming, handsome man, without any ambition in his life. He struggles his way through part-time jobs, various women and eventually drops out of college without any strategy or plan.

The story starts with Love family's history. Randy born to John and Marjorie Love. Heather and James are overachieving siblings of Randy's which makes him the black sheep of the family. The background story of the family was decent and promising. Shay Carter's writing is decent. The modern British was vividly expressed through his writing.

Randy Love At Your Service is an ordinary spoilt brat coming-of-age tale. It highlights the life of Randy Love and his various escapades, trying to make a decent a living. He struggles to take responsibilities for his decisions. His lack of commitment to any relationship or his job was unlikeable. He jumps from one apartment to another apartment. He manipulates his friends and family for paying bills and money. According to me, Randy was a narcissist conman and a flawed character which made me dislike him. The question is will he be able to grow as a responsible man in the end?

This book contains 25 chapters of Randy's life, and various characters are introduced in the story, which makes it hard to keep up with the names and their relationship with Randy. Few characters are quirky and unique, and some are one-dimensional and without any back story. This tale is not at all captivating. Though there are some chapters which made me chuckle, some were interesting, and some were just repetitive tale of Randy's antics. "Bad dog", "A dish best served cold", and "Checkmate", are few good chapters.

There was no continuity in chapters which made it hard to keep up with the story. I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. I didn't find any grammar mistakes or spelling mistakes. The story is centered in a British setting and throughout the language and vocabulary is maintained. At the end of the book, Terminology of British slang and the meaning of words are given; which helps the reader to understand the language better. This book is recommended for young adults and mature readers as it contains adult content.

I totally agree. I struggled with Randy's character. There were precious few redeeming features about him. I do understand the concept of a flawed protagonist, but I just ended up feeling a lot of contempt for Randy. I also rated this book 2 out of 4 stars.

Randy Love doesn't sound like a lovable protagonist at all. Or at least a protagonist I can tolerate. The fact that his surname is "Love" is kind of ironic since he's such a useless person. Won't be reading this book. Thanks for the review!
