The book Randy Love at Your Service by Shay Carter is a novel of over 200 pages. The editing was properly done, and the narrative is quite clear and easy to understand. Randy's parents, John and Marjorie Love, had their family life perfectly planned out. Initially, things went according to plan. But unexpectedly, Marjorie found herself in the family way. The result of this unplanned conception was Randy Love. Without a doubt, Randy fully lived up to his name.
Randy Love at Your Service by Shay Carter continues with the story of this young man who refused to follow the footsteps of his older siblings, Heather and James, both of whom lived decent and responsible lives. Randy has completed three years of university studies and has also lived in the United States for sometime as part of a student exchange program. He was able to go for further studies to acquire a higher position in the banking world. Randy's future looked promising. The plot sees Randy going through one job after another without success due to his laziness and carefree attitude. He had several tactics and tricks for evading work at his workplace. He often latches onto his family members for financial aid. Morally, Randy is nothing to write home about. He delights in acquiring multiple sexual partners amidst other character deficiencies. However, at the point where one begins to feel despair for this young man, help came from the most unlikely person.
The author of this book has done a thorough job of portraying the personality of Randy in vivid terms. In recent times, we see an increase in the number of youths who wish to lead luxurious lives without having to work. The character of Randy is one we can easily relate to. Therefore, this book can go a long way in helping youths learn the truthfulness of this old saying; 'what you sow is what you reap.'
While going through this book, it seemed that the low morals of the protagonist were somehow portrayed in good light. This might encourage young readers to experiment with such destructive behaviours. Although the plot development is interesting, it lacked humour and diversity.
I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. A little more creativity in the plot would have made the book more interesting. I would not recommend this book to teenagers due to the lack of morals portrayed by the protagonist. Adults who love romance novels can give it a try.
