Job and Ix’ises grew up together in a valley that their families lived on. Ever since they were young, they shared a unique friendship. As they grew older and Job left the valley for work, Ix’ises felt like she was losing a friend and the man she always believed she would marry. The night before Ix’ises’ sisters’ wedding, Job asked for her hand in marriage and the next day they became husband and wife. As their marriage and family grew, they became prosperous and were favored in God’s eyes. Job always had a strong connection with God, but Ix’ises had a hard time understanding it all. So, when tragedy struck their family, Ix’ises could not understand why Job would still put his trust in God. They lost their fields, their children, and Job’s body started to decay. Job and Ix’ises believed that this was the end, but then God blessed them greatly.

Through all the pain and heartache, Job never cursed God and always put his trust in him. For this reason, God blessed them because Job was able to withstand the trials that came their way. Ix’ises struggled greatly from the loss of her children, but God blessed her with many more. Both Job and Ix’ises were able to live to see many new generations be born. Ix’ises never fully understood why her first ten children were taken, but by the end of the story, she did put her trust into God. She knew all these horrible things happened so that their story could be told and hopefully help others that were struggling. That didn’t make the loss easier, but it helped her to fully move on from the pain.

The Legacy of Job’s Wife by Cynthia Koelker provides a beautiful representation of the life of Job and Ix’ises. The Legacy of Job’s Wife touches so many with the pain and heartache that Job and Ix’ises went through. People today can relate to the struggles that they went through and the power it took to rebuild. I really liked the way this book was written and how the character’s pain could be felt through the words. I disliked the beginning of the book because it was hard for me to stay engaged and connected until the second half. Overall, I believe that this book is worth reading and will pull at everyone’s heartstrings.

The Legacy of Job’s Wife is deep, powerful, and heartfelt. I decided to rate this book 3 out of 4. I truly loved the way the characters were depicted, but as I said above, I had a hard time staying connected in the beginning. I believe that everyone should read this book because it shows how people should look at the hardships in their life. This book would be great for anyone who is going through hardships, having a hard time understanding God, or who wants to study the story of Job and Ix’ises. I do believe that young children may have a hard time following the events and understanding the hardships that God allowed.

Overall, The Legacy of Job’s Wife portrays both Job and Ix’ises as strong, forgiving, and caring people who went through unbelievable suffering. God found them favorable and blessed them with life, family, and love. God knew that after Ix’ises lost her children, the only way her heart would heal is by becoming a mother again. God gave Ix’ises and Job beautiful children, grandchildren, and many new generations after them. Ix’ises knew her children were from God and understood why Job never strayed from Him. This powerful story will cause you to feel the pain that Job and Ix’ises went through, but it may also help you better understand God.

I have to agree with you on the beginning part. It had quite a slow beginning, but the following story was amazing.
