Superhighway by Alex Fayman Review
Superhighway is a story which revolves around an orphaned boy, named Alex Fine, as he tries to figure out who he was, who he is, and what he wants to do. At first, he thinks he has his life all planned out until a surprise switches him to a very different direction. Alex will continue to make decision after decision with varying results, some in which he is happy for and others he’s not so happy with. As we go through this book, we watch as Alex goes through new experiences and encounters new discoveries about himself.
This is a superhero story in which it is of the fantasy genre that shows the use of superpowers, whether as a hero or not is more for the readers to decide. There is a lot of romance involved for Alex throughout the story that many readers might enjoy. Another big aspect of this story is that in dives into the realm of figuring out what to do after high school life, something many readers can relate to. While Alex has a lot more drastic decisions, he is also still trying to figure out which way he wants to go in his life. A final part behind Superhighway is that Alex is an orphan trying to figure out what happened to him before his life in the orphanage, which is something that many readers (myself included) like to read about.
For Superhighway, I really loved the idea behind the story and how the idea was introduced in the story. I also liked how the writer wrote events and results as there was always a response after each thing Alex did, just as there tends to be in life. Another good idea was showing why Alex made the decisions he did, even when he was confused about them. One of the things I did not enjoy in this story was how impulsive Alex was in making his decisions though it did relate to his character, it created a detachment to the character with me.
I would rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars. For this book I did enjoy the plot, the writing, and the idea behind it. However, for me, I could not relate to the main character and his actions throughout the story. His actions made sense with his background and how he tended to think. However, there was always a disconnect between Alex and myself because of how impulsive and drastic he seemed to be in everything he did. I tended to think that the majority of his decisions were bad ideas. There were also a few typos here and there, but nothing too major.
While this book is an interesting read, I would not recommend it to younger ages or teens. I would not recommend it to said-ages because of my own personal feelings that this book is for older ages because of different things being touched on such as sex, the red light district, stealing, marijuana, drinking, cheating, and even murder. People who are also uncomfortable with any of these probably should not read it because of how often these pop up throughout the book. The best age group for this book would probably be people in college because they can relate to the main character with how he is trying to figure out what to do in his life.
