Alpha Buddies Land, by Donna M. Rink, is a vibrantly written and illustrated children's book. The book follows the journey of the letters Alpha and Beta through Alpha Buddies Land, a place filled with fantastical characters and colorful environments.

Alpha Buddies Land shines in the way the alphabet is presented to young readers. I appreciated how each letter gets time in the spotlight using alliteration to highlight their various traits. We start with Alpha A picking apples with her apple friends Adam and Ali in the apple orchard, and the book concludes with Zany Zach Z with his zipper zigzagging around with his pet zebras.

When my wife and I read this book to our infant daughter we observed her paying rapt attention, only losing her on the pages without any illustrations. This is where my only gripe with the book can be found. Even though Alpha Buddies Land is a wonderfully illustrated book, these illustrations are lacking in about fifty percent of the book. Every other page has just text without any illustrations. I found this to be an odd choice for a children's book and would suggest integrating the illustrations with the text to keep younger readers continually engaged.

I would give this book a 4 out of 5 because it is a well-written children's book without any spelling or grammatical errors, and judging by my daughter's reaction she seemed to really enjoy it. Aside from the aforementioned gripe, I do not have any suggestions on how to improve the book. I do have a pro tip for parents; stream the book to a large screen for maximum engagement with your child.

Alpha Buddies Land is geared towards beginning readers and infants like my daughter. It's a quick and easy read and can be used both as a bedtime story and as practice for children just starting to learn the alphabet.
