Elise, a young law student, befriends a rich, playboy, Greg, who happens to be friends with her father. Greg is about to be married and realizes he can’t go through with the wedding because his feelings for Elise are not feelings of just friends. The majority of the book focuses on the aftermath of their decisions. Will they get their happy ending? Hello, My Love is a romance novel with a hint of “whodunit” mystery. Is it Elise’s future career or Greg’s past that will get in the way of love?
One of the reasons I liked the book was because the author, Evy Journey, writes her characters as humans with flaws, which makes the characters believable. Greg, as dashing as he seems, still has flaws. Elise, as intelligent and confident as she is, still has insecurities. Elise’s parents, The Halverson’s, as sweet as they seem, still get angry. All of the minor characters in the story were believable as well. Lori, Greg’s jilted fiance, was totally wrong for him and a bit conniving, but readers will still feel a little sorry for her.
I rate this book a three out of four stars. It was an easy read and hard to put down because I wanted to know what happened next. In fact, it is hard to write a review for this book because I don’t want to give away any surprises! I was surprised at the span of time the novel covered. I had initially expected the majority of the story to be about Greg and Elise falling in love, just a simple romance novel. The mystery element came up later in the book and made for an exciting twist of events.
The only reason I didn’t give this book a four out of four stars was because although it was an easy read, I was surprised by how fast the book went by. It seemed like there could’ve been more details about their falling in love and having that itself be a book and the mystery element a whole separate book. Although they were believable characters, I didn’t feel like they had an amazing love story because it happened so fast.
If you enjoy romance novels that feature strong female characters I think you’ll enjoy Hello, My Love. The best part about if you enjoy this novel is it is just the first book in the Between Two Worlds series! All of the books are about strong female characters. Book two, Hello, Agnieszka, features Greg’s mother and Book three, Welcome, Reluctant Stranger, features Elise’s brother’s love interest.
