In the book In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All by author Eckhart Aurelius Hughes, the reader is taken on an intimate pilgrimage to learn more about their true selves and how their negative programming or mindset from childhood affects them presently. It makes you more aware of how the actions of authoritative adults can influence a person's inner voice. It brings any hidden judgments the reader might have about themselves and others to the forefront. It also provides the reader with practical tools on how to break free from the societal concepts that force us into invisible boxes that constrain us. It pushes the reader to explore their subconscious mind, encourages them to reflect on past experiences, and gives them the power to accept themselves wholeheartedly; bringing the gift of peace to those who seek it.

This book reaffirmed some life lessons I have learned thus far on my own journey and highlighted some aspects of my shadow work that I couldn't see clearly enough. It helped me pinpoint where my lack of trust in my capabilities comes from and that the process of making peace between the two halves of me never needed to become a self-inflicted war in the first place. My sometimes conflicting traits can coexist harmoniously. As a reader, I found the author's work refreshing, hopeful, humorous, and realistic without creating a glum or 'detached from reality' atmosphere. It is impossible to feel empty while reading this book because it touches you in more ways than you initially realize.

I liked the unconventional approach of the author regarding topics of unconditional love, acceptance, peace, growth, accountability, introspection, and emotional vulnerability. It felt like I was invited into the intricate inner workings of the author's mind. I enjoyed how it felt like the author was speaking to you personally. This book is enlightening and entertaining, and I dare say it made me shed tears on multiple occasions when I reflected back on what I read. It made me admit how harsh I can be with myself and others during times of self-doubt. I gradually felt a weight being lifted off of my shoulders as I read. This book is filled with valuable wisdom and one-of-a-kind moments.

In all honesty, there is nothing I truly dislike about this book. Although I must be honest in stating that this book would not be suitable for those who have difficulty absorbing constructive criticism or those who find recognizing their own negative aspects difficult, It is not for those who are not open to change and letting go. There are slightly uncomfortable moments in which you are required to question yourself, but ultimately, that is what comes with growth. Proper growth cannot occur if you refuse to leave your comfort zone behind to become a new person clinging to blind faith.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars for all the reasons I stated above. I found this book to be professionally edited and came across no errors. It also contains non-borderline profanity and is most suitable for a mature audience of individuals eighteen years of age and older. It was clear how well-researched the discussion topics were throughout each chapter. I highly recommend this non-fictional book to an audience of either spiritually inclined individuals with welcoming hearts, those that are ready to delve into the deep end of their own psyche in order to develop a growth mindset, or those that wish to be free within.
