The First Ten Focus Group Feedback for The Vampire Gaytooth
Because The Vampire Gaytooth was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted members have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book as a part of purchase-intent focus group. We then asked each participant in the focus group if they planned to buy and read the book, and why they planned to buy and read the book or not. Their answer to that question and reasons are displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten Focus Group.
Keep in mind, the responses from the members are not reviews. This is purchase-intent focus group which means the participants are people who have NOT yet bought or read your book. A purchase-intent focus group is an important and extremely useful marketing tool for any product, not just books. For other products, you might walk on the street and show people an item in a package and poll them about whether they would buy if or $X or not. These kind of focus groups are one of the ways big marketing companies find the ideal price points for products and test the effectiveness of different packaging. The focus group can help you identify your market so you how to target ads of your book, and it can (but may not) provide you new useful info about your "packaging" (e.g. your book cover, your book synopsis on Amazon, etc.). The point of the focus group comments is to give you information from people who have not bought or read your book about why they plan to buy your book which will help you in marketing the book. These are not reviews or critiques of your book because they are not from people have read the book. This is a marketing tool, not reviews. The trick of book marketing and book advertising is that you have to convince people who have not read your book yet that your book is worth buying and reading. For marketing, it doesn't matter much if people love your book after reading it if you cannot convince potential buyers before they read it that they will love it.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable. This is because we only poll about 20 or so readers, and all readers have to say "no" to almost all books. Over a million books are published each year. Even a very active reader cannot come close to even reading 1% of books out there.
This is also why publishing books is such a tough industry.

The font used for the title is a good fit for a vampire novel, but I didn't care for the blurry picture. I spotted three errors in the summary blurb, which is a lot for a short blurb - a missing apostrophe, a missing space between the comma and God, and Niece should not be capitalized. The beginning pages are hard to follow and there are problems with the format. Many sentences are underlined and in bold for no apparent reason. Based on the summary and sample pages, I am not interested in reading further.

Based on the cover and blurb, I don't think I would normally read this book. The blurb was initially really intriguing, but as it went on, it seemed to make less and less sense. After reading the sample, I don't plan to buy this book. The story definitely seems unique and interesting, but the author's use of the n-word (even with an a) really turned me off. It just seemed totally unnecessary. However, I didn't notice any mistakes, and the book seemed professionally edited.

After reading the sample on Amazon, I cannot say that I believe this to have been professionally edited. There were multiple instances of "bought" being written where it should have been "brought". Again, multiple. Also, a switch from third person to first person mid-sentence.
I also found the bulk to be awkward to read.
I was actually looking forward to sampling this, and the examination of the differences between religion and faith had me intrigued, but the errors and style of writing made my decision for me. I won't be reading this.

At first glance I wasn't interested in this book. It's not a genre I like although I can appreciate the comedic aspect of it. The story itself is different from other vampire tales, but it didn't interest me. The OBC review was okay, but definitely turned me away from the book. After sampling my opinion hasn't changed and I'll be passing on this one.

When I first see the cover, it seems like a Twilight story where the vampire falls in love with a human, which makes me not want to read it because I've seen many of the same stories like Twilight. I will be reading this book because Rodger seems like a mysterious person, who has many secrets. It seems professionally edited. I did not see a review, and I don't think that would affect my decision.

Had I not sampled the book, I do not think I would have read it. While I found the cover unique, I usually read pure romance stories. Having read the sample, I liked the author's writing style. However, my copy of the sample had most of the text in bold letters (with a few words in between in a normal font). This was distracting and made it a little difficult to read. The book has a favorable onlinebookclub review. Since I do not read the genre usually, I will not be reading the book further.

I read the official review before I read the blurb or read the first ten pages. The review and the first ten pages would be what would make me want to purchase the book. The blurb did not make the book sound very interesting. I only saw one spelling error in the first ten pages. This book looks to be professionally edited.

I would not have sampled this book based on the genre, title, cover, blurb and OBC review. Vampire stories aren't for me. After reading the first ten pages, I won't be finishing this book. I didn't like the dialogue. There was too much for me, and I didn't like that it didn't say who was talking. It did seem to be professionally edited.

The subtitle of "A most unusual vampire story" certainly grabbed my attention and made me want to at least begin this book. I thought the main character, Jack, was interesting enough and I still am not sure what to think about Rodger. However, I just didn't fall in love with the story and don't think I will read the rest. The book appears to be professionally edited and error-free.

From the cover and blurb alone I likely wouldn't have considered this book; if I add the OBC review, I may have given it a shot. After reading the first ten pages I realised that this was definitely going to be a fun read. It has humour, educates you on religion/culture, and seems well written and edited. I will be reading the rest of this one eventually.

I'm so over the whole vampire trend that this is something I would not have paid any attention to if not for this program. The sample was hilarious to say the least as we meet the vampire Gaytooth who is muslim, black and into guys. Sounds quirky but not my type of read.

The Vampire Gaytooth is definitely a most unusual vampire story. The vampire in this story may actually be an angel. However, it is definitely not an angel of the Lord because this vampire is bisexual. This is definitely not the type of novel that I'm interested in due to my belief system.

From the first ten pages I can see that we are looking at a Muslim vampire. The notion of it alone kept me intregued and to read that the Imam is a theif made me laugh out loud. The cover is okay and the sample pages intice me to want and buy the book. The work is fully edited and appeared to be in ship shape form.

This book is not one I would choose to read or sample of my own accord. There is nothing that draws me to the cover, and outside of the the author’s use of the word “unusual,” there is nothing particularly intriguing about the title. After reading the book description and customer reviews, my mindset remains the same. It sounds as if the author uses derogatory humor when discussing religion, and that is not something that appeals to me.
I will not be buying or reading the whole book. As I read through the sample, I was almost immediately greeted with derogatory racial terms (for example, Oriental and ghetto nigga). I realize that plenty of quality books contain derogatory speech, but I do not see as to how it was necessary in these cases.
The book does seem to be professionally edited. If there are any errors, none stood out to me. What I like most is that the vampire is indeed unusual. It is refreshing when an author can take a popular genre and make it his own with a personal twist. The dialogue is an area where the author can improve, as it just seems forced rather than having a natural flow.
This book does have an Official OnlineBookClub review, which further convinced me that I would not personally feel comfortable reading this novel.

The Vampire Gaytooth has one of the most unique book blurbs I have ever read. Sure, an olde tyme vampire is combing the streets, living off the blood of mortals, but then all of a sudden the blurb talks about oral sex in a mosque? I had to re-read the sentence - it was odd. I do not thing I would pick this book up and read it - it isn't particularly my style and I can't get a feel of what exactly the book is about. Is it about vampires? Sex? Both? What?
Based on the first ten pages, I would still opt out of reading this book. The writing is good, but the story did not draw me in and it moved too quickly. While I don't typically have an issue with sex, the oral sex in the mosque was a little too grotesque for me.

The incredibly positive OBC review for 'The Vampire Gaytooth' had me interested in at least sampling this book. I wouldn't have purchased it blindly, mostly because I've read so many vampire books in the past that I wasn't sure if this one would really stand out. Overall, I was impressed with the writing in the sample. The narrative flows nicely and carries you along. However, the book is written in the first person which is my least favorite perspective for a book. Although there are some interesting aspects to the sample, my personal aversion to the first person narrative is going to make me pass on this one. I did not notice any grammatical errors in the sample I read.

The cover is interesting, and I like the title. Both seem appropriate for the genre. The book has received good reviews, but the blurb doesn't make me really interested in the story. I most likely would not have sampled this book without this program. It does appear to be professionally edited. The OnlineBookClub review was very helpful in letting me know what the book was like. After reading the first ten pages, I'm not sure that this book is for me.

i would not have chosen to sample or read the book based on the cover or genre as I don't normally read vampire books. I won't buy or read the whole book and the first ten pages didn't change my original guess as it all seemed rather strange, with some slightly disturbing sexual content that I didn't see any warnings about anywhere. This may not have been professionally edited as I saw the following errors: "vous avez bien manger" (OK that was French); "since you have the advantage knowing so much about me"; "slight-of-hand"' and "such news bought no pleasure or comfort to him". I did like that it was very novel and the air of mystery surrounding the vampire; the meandering of the initial part could be improved. I did see an official OnlineBookClub review.

The title alone begs for a read, and the subtitle is correct: this is an unusual vampire story, from what I read of the sample. I can't wait to read the rest.

I would not buy this book based on my first impression of it. I'm not interested in the story. I don't care for vampires at all. The book doesn't give the impression of a good quality book -- the blurb has grammatical errors in it and the cover looks cheap.
The sample did not change my mind. Like the blurb, there were numerous grammatical errors, so it seems like the book was not professionally edited. The dialogue was unnaturally and stilted, which is something I'm very picky about since unnatural dialogue keeps me from getting immersed into the story. Story-wise, I was bored throughout.
There is an official OnlineBookClub review, but it did not change my mind.

"The Vampire Gaytooth" is a well written thriller. The plot of this book is very interesting. I read it's review on OnlineBookClub and decided to read the sample of the book available on Amazon. I liked the way the vampire is depicted in this book. I also liked the cover of this book. Vampire love storis always attract me. I enjoyed the sample and I would like to read the entire book.
Moreover, I did not find any grammatical errors and spelling mistakes in the sample that I have read. The author has done a great job.

Today's book of the day The Vampire Gaytooth by Michael John main character is a gay vampire who meets up with different characters. Based on reading the preview I personally would not have purchased the book. This was quite a different twist on the vampire theme.

I love vampires, and while I was a little put off by the warnings concerning the book's view on religion, the hook so far had me reading past the first ten pages before I realized how far I'd read. Gaytooth comes off with such a confidence, charm and power that he's very intriguing. If the book was free I could see finishing it someday, but as it is I don't see making a purchase to finish it.

I'm not really into vampire stories so I wouldn't have read this sample without the first ten program. The onlinebookclub review was good and so was the sample. The story was interesting and told with a sense of humor. I was a bit thrown by the switch into the back story of Pedro but it was ok once I got used to it. The review and sample were almost enough to get me to read a vampire story but not quite enough. I do not plan to read the rest of the book. Vampires stories are not my thing.

I think that this cover design is great. The title is definitely unusual as well, so I would like to read more about this book. The Onlinebookclub review was very complementary and I do enjoy vampire books. However, I don't enjoy reading too much about religion, so I was a bit less interested after reading the review. The pages which I read were without any apparent editorial mistakes, but I found the writing a bit stilted and hard to get involved in. The way Rodger spoke, while obviously from another country, and century, felt a little forced to me. This, along with the religious aspect, means that I won't continue with this book. I have no ideas for improvement.

I have never read a vampire book so would have been unlikely to select this one by genre alone. My willingness to sample this novel were enhanced by the OnlineBookClub review, which spoke of the humour throughout the book. Due to my appreciation of wit, I felt this would be an excellent choice to introduce myself to this genre. I also found the cover statement, ‘a most unusual vampire story’, enticing as it implied this novel would offer something different than the norm. It was refreshing to look at the front of a vampire book and not be confronted by fangs, dripping with blood. This also increased the appeal for me.
The first ten pages flowed well, providing an easy read. Humour was introduced early and the story, so far, has left me wanting to read more. I want to see how the characters and relationships in this novel develop. I intend to add this book to my ‘want-to-read’ list.

Had I not read the sample of this book as a part of this program, I probably would not have chosen to read it. The cover is not engaging. The blurriness of the picture and the title font do not really work. I read the review on OnlineBookClub.org and it did spark my interest. After reading the first twelve pages, I would choose to read the rest of this book. The author's writing style is clever and thought-provoking. I was reminded of Gabrielle Garcia Marquez and the 1000 Years of Solitude. It was well done and I liked the vampire much more than I thought I would. He's just the right amount of creepy and fascinating. Great job!

Based on the title tagline, I wanted to see how unusual the storyline was. The cover looks very amateur and should be polished some more. The first page had some awkward phrasing and words but the rest were all right. It definitely has an unusual plot which is a strength. The reviewer liked the book because it was received as a satire and humorous. However, I was continually cringing at the stereotypes and bigoted comments. I will not buy this book.

If I had not read the sample I would not have read the book. I am a little hesitant about the religion in this book, though the premise does sound thought-provoking and the official review talked about the contrast between religion and faith. After reading the sample I have not changed my mind. I am a little confused by what is going on, and the formatting - bold and underlined words - is a bit weird. There is also a missing indent for the line that starts with "Recently, yes...".

After reading the first ten pages of, The Vampire Gaytooth by Michael Francis John, I have decided that I will not be purchasing this book. Before reading a sample, the title and blurb of the book had engaged me. Regrettably, after reading some of this book, I found some of the language used off putting. For me, this story just isn't engaging, and the language used adds to it. One example that I will present is this, when Rodger says, "First, I ain't any ghetto nigga," I honestly don't see the point in this being a part of the dialogue. For me, the story just seems to meander, in a strange way, and I can't get engaged. From what I have read this book does appear to be professionally edited. While this book does have an official OnlineBookClub review, it had no impact on my decision to not purchase this book.

I like the cover of the book. I think the red title against a black blurry background is really interesting for paranormal fantasy type of books. I really do enjoy the premise of this book because I definitely think it's unique and something I've never seen before which is refreshing. However, I don't think I am the target audience for this book. I'm not really into this genre.

The fact that this is another vampire novel makes me not want to read it simply because it has been overdone in recent months. I think it looks interesting, though the cover is blurry and difficult to make out, but all in all I just don't think I can deal with another read like this right now. I won't be buying a copy.

After reading the sample, I think I'll pass on this book. While the story seems interesting, I don't think I'll finish reading this book. I also read the official OBC review which made the book sound interesting. The book title and cover also seems to match the story. While reading the book, I liked how the author included phrases of different languages. I didn't notice any major grammatical errors either.

The book starts with an encounter straight away which is good for drawing the reader in. You are curious about the stranger that the main character meets. There is a lot of dialogue and it is a bit odd.
The cover and title do not really give you much insight as to what the plot of the novel is. The OBC review doesn't give much of an idea either, but leads me to believe that the story is more character based.
The ten pages made me want to read further on in the sample, but I am not looking for a vampire book right now.

This is surely one of the most unusual storylines I've come across. Roger Gaytooh is surely a one-of-a-kind character. A vampire who's been around for six and a half centuries, and thus, leads a very colorful and different life, is surely one amazing character. The review and description of the book were quite interesting and encouraging. The book hints at quite a lot of plots and themes being explored. The book seems to be edited properly as well. Though I find the book fascinating, since I'm already in the middle of another book, I think I'll skip this one.

I probably wouldn't have sampled the book on my own, as I am tired of vampire tales. The cover and blurb aren't that fetching, but the official review had me intrigued. A tale about a homosexual, Muslim, African-American vampire sure sounds unique. The sample was well written, but most of the sentences were written in bold, and some were underlined, which I found rather distracting. The transfer from the first POV to the third was confusing as well. In addition, I didn't really like the style of writing. I have to say that I found the oral sex scene and the consequent nonviolent response rather unbelievable. I won't read the book as it just isn't my cup of tea.

Total ~ 21%
The Vampire Gaytooth earned a score of 21%.
In other words, out of the top-level reviewers who read at least the first 10 pages of this book, 21% plan to read the whole book.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable.
Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.
