The First Ten Focus Group Feedback for The Daddy Game
Because The Daddy Game was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted members have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book as a part of purchase-intent focus group. We then asked each participant in the focus group if they planned to buy and read the book, and why they planned to buy and read the book or not. Their answer to that question and reasons are displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten Focus Group.
Keep in mind, the responses from the members are not reviews. This is purchase-intent focus group which means the participants are people who have NOT yet bought or read your book. A purchase-intent focus group is an important and extremely useful marketing tool for any product, not just books. For other products, you might walk on the street and show people an item in a package and poll them about whether they would buy if or $X or not. These kind of focus groups are one of the ways big marketing companies find the ideal price points for products and test the effectiveness of different packaging. The focus group can help you identify your market so you how to target ads of your book, and it can (but may not) provide you new useful info about your "packaging" (e.g. your book cover, your book synopsis on Amazon, etc.). The point of the focus group comments is to give you information from people who have not bought or read your book about why they plan to buy your book which will help you in marketing the book. These are not reviews or critiques of your book because they are not from people have read the book. This is a marketing tool, not reviews. The trick of book marketing and book advertising is that you have to convince people who have not read your book yet that your book is worth buying and reading. For marketing, it doesn't matter much if people love your book after reading it if you cannot convince potential buyers before they read it that they will love it.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable. This is because we only poll about 20 or so readers, and all readers have to say "no" to almost all books. Over a million books are published each year. Even a very active reader cannot come close to even reading 1% of books out there.
This is also why publishing books is such a tough industry.

"The Daddy Game" is not a book I would typically chose to read. The content of the book does not really pique my interest; also, I felt I would have a hard time relating to the main character. After sampling the first ten pages as part of this program, my feelings towards this book have not changed. I can see how this book would appeal to others (and it clearly does based on the many positive reviews); the author does a good job of setting the tone through the narrative perspective and unique writing style. Unfortunately, these aspects did not appeal to me. I did not notice any grammatical errors in the sample. I will not be finishing this book.

Had I not sampled this book as part of this program, I would not have chosen to read it. Upon hearing what it was about, I found it very off-putting.
I will not buy and read the whole book. I really cannot see myself reading an entire book with probably one of the most unlikable protagonists I've ever encountered.
I'm assuming this book is professionally edited. However, it's hard to say anything about grammatical errors when the main character's language is so bad. For example, erry for every. I really can't stand that. I realize it's part of the gimmick of the story, but I can't see myself reading an entire book when this character's language is so full of slang.
I'm afraid that I do not like this book. I find the subject matter very offensive. This book implies that the main character was trapped by a girl he had been with saying she was pregnant. Well, when this occurs, "I had been pretty careful the times we did it raw but a couple of times when I came over already buzzed...I may have let her keep it in when I busted," what did he think was going to happen. If you're so worried about getting trapped, maybe you should make sure you always use protection, or how about keeping it in your pants. It's always the woman's fault if she gets pregnant. This book is just repeating that rhetoric. I simply cannot see myself reading the entire book.
This book was officially reviewed on OBC.

At first glance and after reading the OBC review I thought that I would enjoy this book because the topic was different and seemed that it could make for a fun and interesting story told from a dad's POV. However after sampling I was underwhelmed by the language used and the storyline itself. I understand the context but it was almost irritating the way it is written. I didn't see any errors in the sample. I will not be buying and finishing this book.

Had I not sampled the book, I would not have read it. The synopsis did not interest me. Having read the sample, my opinion remains. The book was easy to read and the author describes the character's thoughts well. However, I did not like the character and found the informal language a little hard to get used to. The book seems professionally edited. It has a favorable Onlinebookclub review. I could not connect with the character and hence, I will not be reading the book further.

I don't think I would be reading this book because I am not a big fan of humor. I am not going to be reading this book but it seems very interesting from just the first ten pages. It was very descriptive and started off funny. It seems professionally edited. I did not see a review, and I don't think it would affect my decision.

I think when authors writer these real life accounts about person aspects of life, readers are able to relate on a whole new level. The humor that comes along with being a patent is something that I just have to take in stride. It seems like this author knows how to write in the thought to get a readers attention. I'm looking forward to this story, and am unable to pass even with an exceeding TBR list.

I would not have sampled this read without this program due to a couple of reasons. The money on the cover leads me to believe that there will be a big dispute with money and that is something does not interest me. The title is interesting, but I never wondered what went through the mind of a 'deadbeat dad'. Even with the positive reviews, including the OBC one, again, I would not have sampled this read.
Based on what I read, the book might be professionally edited. I say 'might be' because the writing is more loose and partially slang, which does seem intentional, but is fairly new to me. Though, sometimes, this can be distracting for me. I like how realistic the author made this particular situation and I do find the read fairly easy to follow. Though I am not a fan of the slang, I am willing to give this book a read.

At first glance, the title of this book has me interested. I thought the online book club review painted this novel in a good light.
After reading the first few pages, I was disappointed. The writing style was confusing to follow and the content seemed too vulgar to me, therefore I do not intend to read the rest of this book.

The OBC reviewer enjoyed this book and gave it 4 out of 4 stars. I was concerned about the language and some of the subject matter. I read the first few pages and couldn't connect with the theme or the characters. I won't be reading the rest of this book.

This book was pretty interesting. The protagonist's word choice indicated a lack of consideration for Tiffy, which was his undoing. If I were not a part of this program, I would have likely overlooked the book, because the genre and writer are unappealing to me. The topic was even more unappealing, but the Online Book Club reviewer made some interesting points on its worth as a look into the mind of a deadbeat dad. I knew I wouldn't like the protagonist, so I was not surprised by anything. My favorite part was the first sentence of the first chapter. It implied a lot of hostility from the main character that continued throughout the sample. I will not buy or read this book, because it was tedious to read through. There were no typos or unintentional errors.

From the sample on Amazon and the review on this website, the story sounds fascinating, though, I wouldn't have thought so looking at the book cover. Unquestionably, it has an interesting point of view. I haven't read anything from the 'deadbeat dad's' perspective. The book looks well written and edited. However, I don't think I'll enjoy the book as much as the reviewer. I'm not from the USA, and I found the slang used by the main character a bit hard to read.

As the name suggests, this book circles the concept of 'Daddy Game' or how some women trick men into believing that they're the father of their unborn child and pressurize them to own up to their responsibilities. The book is written in first person which gives it a personal touch, and makes it seem authentic. The protagonist isn't very likable though, seeming a downright jerk sometimes. The author makes use of slang and informal language, which works to keep the reader interested, however the overt descriptions were pretty crude. That said, even if the author would have made use of a more sophisticated vocabulary, I doubt the content could have been more palatable. There is no lack of stereotyping and objectification of women. The content is generally disrespectful to women, and the only saving grace for this novel is humorous sound of the incidents which unfold in the narrative. While I agree that forcing a man to stay in an unwanted relationship is wrong, men playing women isn't something I enjoy reading about either. Even though the description of the novel and well-written review make me slightly curious, to find out whether the protagonist was actually the biological father or not, I would have passed on this one. Though it would be interesting to know what men actually think, it isn't incentive enough for me to buy this one.

The title is interesting but makes the book seem a little bit strange. The cover is compelling but a little bit too dark so it is difficult to tell exactly what was going on. When viewing the book on amazon, I had little more help in actually determining what this book was about, so off the bat I don't feel like this is something I would enjoy. When I read the opening, I stuck by my first opinion because it didn't hook me the way I like books to do when I first give them a try. It just felt a little bit strange and never really captured my attention.

Based on the blurb and reviews, I would probably not have selected this title. Actually, I was a bit put off by the Amazon reviews - they felt very shallow, and that made me question them. The cover, however, I think is brilliant. It actually caused me to stop in my tracks and question my preconceived notions about the book.
The sample was a an interesting read. To start off, I identified nothing I would categories as a typographical or editorial error. The piece is written in such a stylized format, I am not sure a "traditional" editorial error could occur.
On that note, however, I found the stylized format of the book also brilliant (a very nice match to the cover). The flow of the text felt almost like stream of consciousness thought from the main character (but formatted just enough for us to easily folllow along). The guy might not be likable, but the writer ably assisted us in following his logic and motivations. This was a refreshing change in fictional presentation.
All that said, I will not be getting this book and reading it. This is simply not a title I would chose for recreational reading.

I found the syntax to be a bit too stereotypical for my taste. I believe a more balanced approach could appeal to more readers. The cover is very well done.
Due to my preferences I would not have looked at this, and don't plan to continue.

I wasn't sure about this one when I first saw it. My initial impression was that it was going to be a niche erotic novel (title and cover). Then I read the review and description, and I got a different picture. Even so, I didn't know if I'd like or be able to relate to the protagonist enough to want to continue the book. When I read the first ten pages, I was put off by the errors in the writing (not just the colloquial speech, the actual errors) and the overall spirit of confrontation. I feel like I have enough of that kind of thing in my life already, and I go to great lengths to avoid it.

From the start, I knew I would not ever finish this book. It was interesting but I didn't like how the main character viewed and talked about women. I know that the author wanted to portray the main character as a no commitment type of person, but I wished the character had a little more respect for women. The book was also written with slang so grammatical errors wouldn't really count for this type of novel.

There's absolutely zero chance I would've read this one if it wasn't a book of the day, but the 4/4 rating and good Amazon reviews gave me hope. As I started reading I resisted the urge to quit repeatedly, but again the good reviews made me think maybe the book would turn itself around and become awesome. At least in the first ten pages that definitely didn't happen, so I won't be finishing this book.

I love the stylish cover of the book, even though the red color of the author's name almost disappears against the dark background. The Amazon summary is well written, but the subject matter of the book doesn't seem like something I would enjoy. I didn't care for the overuse of slang in the sample pages or the way the main character views women. Although the Official Review is very positive, I am not interested enough in the story to continue reading it.

I'm not sure that this is a book I would normally be drawn to, though I do find the cover and title to be interesting. The OBC review promises an entertaining read so it was worth a look. The writing takes some getting used to, but I do believe it is professionally edited. While reading the first ten pages, I went back and forth between finding it humorous and being offended. By the end I definitely landed on the offended side. Maybe more men would find this an interesting read, but I just don't think I'm the intended audience for this book. I will not be purchasing the book.

If I had not read the sample, I would have read the book. The sample did not change my mind. The writing was very interesting right off the bat, and I liked how the speech was written stylistically but it wasn't hard to read. I loved the premise of the story - it was unique and different. It was professionally edited and I did not read an official review.

I would have sampled this book based on the title, cover, and OBC review. It seemed like an interesting perspective to look at an unwanted pregnancy from. There are a lot of books on the mother's perspective, but rarely the father's. After reading the first ten pages, I will not be buying this book. I couldn't handle the language of it. It was too laid back for my taste. It kind of tweaked my nerves as well. I understand style, but it was kind of annoying it my opinion. Of course, that's just my opinion. It did seem to be professionally edited. I just couldn't get past the degrading language that was used to describe the woman that claimed the main character got her pregnant, or women in general really.

At first glance, this book did not interest me. After reading the first ten pages, my initial thought was correct. I do not like the slang that is used or the style of writing. Also, I am not too keen on the protagonist's persona. I will not be purchasing this book.

After reading the blurb, I definitely don't think this is my kind of book. I feel like I would have a hard time relating to the protagonist of the story and I don't typically read books like this. After reading the first ten pages, I do think the writing is good and the storyline is somewhat humorous. However, I am not the target audience for this. This storyline is really not something I'm interested in.

Today's choice for book of the day. The Daddy Game by S hadez did not make the cut. I found the main character too full of his self-centeredness. After reading the preview I decided not to add this one to my 2017 reading list.

Total ~ 12%
The Daddy Game earned a score of 12%.
In other words, out of the top-level reviewers who read at least the first 10 pages of this book, 12% plan to read the whole book.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable.
Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.
