Memoirs of a Management Consultant is a conversation about the life and experiences of Franco Guazzoni. Guazzoni shares a detailed account of his professional life, centered on the founding and development of MIDA, a consulting firm he co-founded. As with starting any business, the development of MIDA brought about its set of challenges, unique circumstances, and lessons. Furthermore, the book provides a glimpse into the consulting world from an Italian and international viewpoint.

The author’s family is equally a dominant feature in the book. There are humorous accounts of family life, holidays, university life, and a candid reflection of aging and the lessons learnt. These sections make the read deeply human and relatable. The regrets, filed strategies, and lessons embedded in every setback give validity to our human nature.

The book portrays passion for family, sports, and professional development. It is light and humorous, making it an easy read. The people and experiences in the autobiography are all vividly described, giving life to every person and scene. The conversation structure makes it an engaging and captivating read.

I especially enjoyed the journey through the Italian society across the decades, including the political violence of the 1970s. This provides insight into the economic developments and professional milestones shaped by life across the decades. The author additionally offers a candid personal life journey, including the good, the bad, the regrets, and family life. I hardly find anything to dislike about the book.

The editing is impeccable with no grammatical errors noted. It is also a clean read that lacks any profanities or offensive language. It is a genuine read that takes a reader through Guazzoni’s life and Italy’s growth. Specific examples further compound the narrations, the author’s love of the AC Milan football club, and the wisdom gained through age. Memoirs of a Management Consultant deserves a rating of five out of five stars. The book can be comfortably read and enjoyed by readers seeking a general memoir or a professional read.
