Snatched Up to Heaven!, written by Jemima Paul and Arvind Paul, is a thought-provoking and inspirational account of visions of Heaven and Hell had by their daughters, Priyanka (age 4) and Deepika (age 2).

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and found it to be a fun and eye-opening read for not only devout Christians but also for anyone who has a curiosity and/or interest in the afterlife. At first, I admit, I was a bit skeptical as I sometimes felt that the mother was trying a little too hard to fit the girls’ words into a specific interpretation of a scripture. My skepticism, however, did not last long and I soon gave myself up to just enjoying the stories and the interpretations as presented. I appreciated that the authors included the scriptures along with the interpretations, as it gave me the chance to collect my thoughts on the visions and evaluate them against the mother’s own thoughts. The book definitely kept me mentally engaged. I also enjoyed watching the video links of the girls as they talked of their visions; having these included at the end of the book was an added delight.

I love that this book gives insights into the family’s journey to God. Their family discussions of scriptures during mealtimes, Priyanka’s baptism, the way their holiday celebrations evolved, etc., all give the readers a sense of how the visions impacted their life as a family.

I am giving this book a 3 out of 4 and a 4 out of 5 rating. The strong, but not perfect, rating is due only to the fact that it did not grab my attention from the very beginning. This, in my opinion, could have been fixed easily by placing the girls' drawings of their visions throughout the chapters, rather than in their current position at the end of the book. I enjoyed the account of the visions and the imagery that they created. I enjoyed the mother’s interpretations and found the scriptures to be interesting. The authors do a wonderful job of talking about religion without sounding too preachy or off-putting to readers who might not be at the same level of belief as themselves. The book is well-written and well-edited; the topic is engaging. It is a great book to use in a group study situation as it provides many avenues of discussion. I highly recommend it.
