The Eve Code, by Mariett Ramm, is a self-help book that seeks to educate, inspire, and uplift women. The topics covered directly relate to women and are discussed in such a way as to help women understand themselves better, and in so doing, improve their quality of life. In addition to sourcing solutions for everyday problems, readers of the book can also expect to be educated in various areas such as social science, biology, and even physics. Some of the topics that stood out to me include self-acceptance, self-confidence, childhood trauma, forgiveness, understanding menstrual cycles, and the cause of anxiety and other brain impairments. Although the reader’s intended audience is women aged 30 to 60, I believe women in their 20s can also utilize the information presented to lead a more purposeful life.

In explaining the source of the issues women face, Ramm incorporates a myriad of interesting facts that are utilized to instill greater understanding, thereby helping the reader to follow the thought processes. In addition to these facts, the text also teaches Taoism, through references from the Tao Te Ching, which the author uses as the framework for many of the points made. As a result, The Eve Code does require a certain level of open-mindedness for readers who don’t subscribe to such Chinese philosophy. There are also instances where Ramm references the Bible; however, this is done purely to substantiate certain points. Therefore, in my opinion, the book is not geared toward specific religions, and women from all walks of life can benefit from the author’s guidance.

Another great characteristic of The Eve Code is its structure. Within each chapter, each thought is separated into sections and each section is given a title. This will allow readers to return to specific sections when in need of guidance on something specific without having to reread the entire book. Additionally, Ramm includes several exercises that instruct readers on achieving certain qualities for self-improvement. A few examples of such activities are how to heal your inner child, how to forgive, and learning how to stop living in the past. These activities enable the book to be used as a starting point for women who want to start therapy but are hesitant about opening up to a therapist.

After reading The Eve Code, I can conclude that it has achieved its purpose of guiding women to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life. However, the writing could be improved as there are numerous grammatical errors and run-on sentences that make comprehending the text difficult in some instances. Additionally, the author does, in my opinion, go too in-depth in some background information which may cause readers to forget the initial point. It is because of these issues, that affect the readability of the book, that I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars.
