Cross Intents: The Birth by SR Wells draws you into a thought-provoking journey through the story of Jesus's birth. This story gripped me from the first action-packed scene, though moments it challenged me with a different perspective into the Spiritual Realm, and to the last when this earthshattering event so overcomes the characters that they cannot help but worship the God who created this universe.
SR Wells offered a new view on angels, showcasing their role as spiritual intermediaries, which brought a sense of depth my to interpretation of prayer and spiritual warfare. The author did this by highlighting that we are not alone in our struggles by using a couple of examples from things that occur in everyday life; that was inspiring.
The strategic planning surrounding Jesus’ birth illustrated the profound care God has for mankind by taking one on this journey and showing us the planning and preparation that has spanned centuries.
One of the stark contrasts I was made very aware of was that between the heavenly and dark realms. The people, angles, and creatures who believed (believes) in God operate with trust – in each other and God – free of jealousy, ambition, and putting less emphasis on rank… a very stark contrast with the world of those who don’t believe.
Another thing I found so mind-blowing and humbling was when one of the angels said: “I have stood before Him face to face through the centuries, I have continued to discover new facets and depths of the Lord’s Character. His awesome power and holiness cannot be rivalled, and His love and mercy are deep. But this demonstration of humility is a quality of the King’s nature I had never imagined…I wonder if the men He is coming to save will see it.” This was regarding the birth of Jesus in a stable, and I mean Wowwww. Crazy.
So, I'd definitely say that this book provided a thought-provoking and different view of the time and work that went into preparing for Jesus’ birth. Moreover, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good read, a casual one, or for someone looking for a slightly deeper understanding (though fictional) of the spiritual forces at play in our lives.
