Crimeline Hollywood starts as it means to go on. It is fast-paced, light-hearted and launches the reader straight into the action. Someone is shooting at the narrator in the very first scene and before you know it, you're in a car chase, amusingly peppered with useful tips from Nigel, the voice of the GPS guide.

The book follows Dash Harwood, an astrologer to the stars, who makes the understandable decision to have a change of scenery and a change of name after the run-in with the thug with a gun on the road. However, soon after going into hiding, Dash's favourite and one of his most famous clients, Sparklynn James, is kidnapped and Dash is called upon by her husband to assist in tracking her down. Dash recognises a coded message in Sparklynn's communication and is determined to save her before it is too late. He accidentally teams up with Rebecca Fairway, a Private Investigator/social media star and their difficult relationship and race to save Sparklynn is both humorous and exciting.

I found this book highly entertaining. The smart mixture of suspense and humour kept me interested throughout. I did, however, feel as though Collins was in a little too much of a hurry at times and the short chapters and fast pace prevented him from thoroughly fleshing out his characters. As I got into the story, I did warm to both Dash and Rebecca and was rooting for them all the way. There are lots of funny and exciting scenes.

Overall, I thought Crimeline Hollywood was a great read, if a little sloppy and obvious at times. It felt like a good book that could have been a really great book if Collins had taken a little more care and attention to the details and the editing. There were too many typos for my liking, down to the quite regular misspelling of Sparklynn's name, which is really unforgivable and has contributed to my rating.

Overall, I have rated Crimeline Hollywood 4 out of 5 stars. It was fun and it is just a shame that it wouldn't have taken much to make it really excellent.
