Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's memoir, "A Dream of Peace", is a powerful and inspiring account of a life dedicated to the pursuit of justice, peace, and diplomacy. The book offers an in-depth look at Berrah’s extraordinary journey from his early life in colonial Algeria to his influential roles as a freedom fighter, diplomat, and advisor.

Born into a time of intense colonial oppression, Berrah's early life was shaped by his mother’s unwavering support and his own resolve to break free from the confines of colonial rule. His journey took him from Algeria to France, where he studied medicine and became deeply involved in the fight for Algerian independence. Berrah’s activism was not limited to Algeria; he extended his efforts across Africa, working as a diplomat for the Ivory Coast and contributing to significant international peace efforts.

One of the book’s standout qualities is Berrah's ability to blend personal narrative with broader historical and political contexts. His story is not just about his own struggles but also about the larger movements for freedom and peace. The memoir explores themes of dedication, cross-cultural understanding, and the power of dialogue over conflict. Berrah’s relationship with his wife, Titi, and his collaboration with influential figures like President Houphouët-Boigny add a personal touch to the political and diplomatic content.

The book is easily readable and captivating due to its chronological arrangement. The narrative is made more authentic by the inclusion of images and the descriptive description of Berrah's experiences. Because of the simple language, it is simpler to understand complicated historical and political topics.

Despite the book’s length, it remains captivating throughout. There was nothing to dislike about the book, so I give a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

The memoir is a testament to Dr. Berrah’s remarkable life and achievements. It is highly recommended for readers interested in African history, post-colonial studies, and inspiring personal stories of dedication and resilience. The book not only informs but also motivates readers to embrace peace and pursue their own dreams with determination.
