As a woman who enjoys a good blend of romance and suspense, I found Dorothy May Mercer’s novel to be an engaging read. Here are some of my thoughts:

The premise of a honeymoon turned into a high-stakes adventure intrigued me. Kelly and Tom, our newlyweds, stumble upon danger while on their idyllic Caribbean getaway. The suspense builds steadily as they uncover an international terrorist plot involving an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP). Mercer keeps her audience guessing, and the unexpected twists kept me listening until the end.

Kelly McBride is a relatable heroine. She's curious, brave, and determined. Her chemistry with Sgt. Tom Turbulo adds depth to the story. However, I wished for more exploration of their relationship beyond the adrenaline-fueled moments. The antagonist, a dictator with evil intentions, felt appropriately menacing.

The novel touches on the themes of patriotism, loyalty, and sacrifice. Kelly’s personal journey—from a blissful honeymooner to a woman fighting for her country—resonates. The EMP threat symbolizes the vulnerability of our modern world, and Mercer weaves this theme seamlessly into the narrative.

Mercer’s prose is straightforward, allowing the plot to take center stage. While I appreciated the fast pace, I occasionally craved more vivid descriptions and emotional depth. The dialogue felt authentic, especially during intense moments.

The surprise ending caught me off guard, but it left some loose ends. I wanted a more satisfying resolution for Kelly and Tom. Perhaps a glimpse into their post-honeymoon life would have added closure.

In summary, E-M-P Honeymoon: Kelly & Tom is a thrilling ride with a unique blend of genres. While I would rate this a 3 out of 4 due to character development and writing style, it’s definitely worth picking up if you enjoy suspenseful reads. This book is suitable for a mature audience, likely older teens and adults due to the several instances of profanity and it's vague sexual content. Mercer’s faculty to keep readers guessing makes this book a solid choice for a cozy weekend escape.
