Review of Ophelia
The plot of Norman Bacal's book “Ophelia" revolves around the death of Gerhard Neilson, a major shareholder and co-founder of Danmark, a drug company. Gerhard, also known as Geri for the majority of the book, was a savvy businessman, a rigid individual, and a distant father and husband. Did he die of natural causes?
The plot begins with vows being made. A family escapes to a new nation during the height of the Nazi conflict with the assistance of Gerhard's father, a fisherman. The head of the family offers Geri's father precious stones as a token of appreciation, but he graciously declines and chooses to accept God's blessings instead. The man, amazed by this, vows that he and his family will definitely return the favor. Perplexed that his father missed this opportunity to improve their lives, Gerhard takes a personal vow. The keeping of these promises will play a significant role in the story of this book.
The book is divided into three parts. In Part 1, Tal, the deceased Geri Neilson's son, begins an investigation into his father's death, suspecting it was murder. In Part 2, a more responsible and self-aware Tal Neilson is better prepared. He no longer relies on drugs, and the tragedy that occurred in his childhood home no longer weighs on him. He also makes better decisions to improve his life.
In the final section, Tal comes close to uncovering the conspiracy that led to his father's death. In doing so, he attracts lethal enemies, of whom he has no idea are watching his every movement. How is he going to survive this unknown danger? Who comes to his aid? Will Tal Nielson ever discover the truth behind his father's death? Reading this thriller will provide you with all the answers.
I adored how Tal Nielson's character developed; when he was first introduced, I had no idea how much he would mature into a successful character and end up being my favorite in the book. I also liked how I could not predict how Tal Nielson and the pastor's meeting would turn out.
I give it a rating of four out of five stars, deducting one point for the use of numerous pointless characters. Ophelia serves as an example of such a character. Her powers and strengths as a character, in my opinion, were all developed and did not significantly advance the plot as I had anticipated. Everything else in this book was fantastic, aside from this. To add to its beauty, this book was expertly edited and contains no grammatical errors. I heartily recommend this book to readers who enjoy mysteries and suspenseful fiction.
