According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), stress is the leading cause of illness, and is caused by fear. This is among the fascinating topics covered by NLP and by 'Phobia Relief' by Kalliope Barlis.

According to neuroscientists, the brain is the only known structure in the universe that functions so efficiently.

Fear always has a purpose, be it positive or negative. We must allow fear to protect us when necessary.
But there are only two innate fears, the rest are all learned and are often debilitating and/or crippling to a person's very life path. There is no fear gene.

The brain learns quickly and learns fears quickly.
When you have a fear, you can change it as quickly as you learned it. But, for the brain to learn to do it, information must be presented in a way that allows it to detect a scheme.

This book aims to present resources and tools that enable the brain to learn to think differently, combined with the resources that reside within each of us.

In the introductory part of 'Phobia Relief', Barlis introduces himself to the reader by giving an overview of his own work/academic experience in using NLP techniques.
In easy-to-understand language, a definition of NLP is provided.

The author makes important reflections on our power over ourselves and our thoughts and consequently on our psycho-physical well-being.
She says that thoughts can always be changed, consciously and on purpose. Changing thoughts, ideas, and feelings is possible, but it is necessary to take action to make what we want to happen happen.
There is a way to manage neurological processing and weaken thoughts in the brain that leads not only to the reduction of fears but also to the reduction of the impact of bad memories. All this is possible with NLP, and NLP teaches people how to do it.
Barlis, with a set of guided exercises, walks people through the use of the available tools.
Reminding us that the quality of thoughts is reflected in the quality of life, that our thinking influences how we feel, and stating that who you are and what you do can change based on how you think.
According to Barlis, by following the instructions, you will have the opportunity to diminish the power of any fear.
Among the goals of the proposed exercises:
-achieving greater awareness concerning one's feelings, thus also concerning the progress that is made along the way
-exercising introspection
- to weaken fears through the deconstruction of unwanted feelings
-elaborating thoughts related to one's future and projecting them into the future

From an educational and cultural perspective, I do recommend reading this book to anyone.
And to people who wish to face their fears, I recommend combining the reading and guided exercises in this book with one or more sessions with a specialist.

My overall rating is 4 out of 5 because
-I find this book and its contents very valuable
-I did not notice any grammatical or editing errors
- Because the text on some occasions has repetitions

My overall rating is not 5 out of 5 because I find that the text contains repetition that may be redundant as a whole. Since there are essential points that necessarily need to be stated several times, I think a good alternative might be the use of diagrams or tables in such cases.

Personal suggestion: I believe that for guided exercises, the use of tables to illustrate the various steps can be helpful.
