In this short collection of thriller fables, Viktoria Faust opens the gates to a world of terror. In these ten thriller fables, she attempts to show different lives from the perspective of each nightmare. The summary of this book captured my attention because I am a massive fan of thrillers, and it left me excited to read each story. Although this book has separate stories, several have a common vampire theme. The others were a bit difficult to decipher. It is noticeably clear that this work has been translated into English. Overall, my rating for this book is 1 out of 5. I tried to plunge into each story, but most came up short. Upon finding numerous grammatical errors in the book, I concluded that it was not professionally edited. Each story had very captivating subjects, and each of them had the potential to be something more than what the book told. I finished each story longing more. Every main character needed more information. The book was lacking in world-building. It wasn't easy to visualize the setting of each story, and they felt one-dimensional in that way. My review includes a trigger warning. Some may find this book fatphobic, homophobic, and misogynistic. It contains some sexual content and mentions suicide. I was highly disappointed throughout the book. However, I was able to enjoy one of the stories. I did like the “Gallery of Horrors” and the two stories that followed it, as they had similar storylines. It was a trilogy within the book, and they were more complete works. They had better character development and world-building. The author successfully painted a picture of the setting in these stories. However, the ending of the third left me craving more substance. I can’t confidently recommend reading this book for enjoyment. Although short, I found it very difficult to get through. I was hooked by the concept: short tales of bone-chilling monsters. But finished reading it highly disappointed.
